Do you run the same brand of tire on the front and rear?
Example... Nitto on the rear with a BF GoodRich on the front.
I’ve read the threads and checked out a number of different sizes for 15”,16” and 17” rims and the only thing I can decide on is the selection sucks. It gets better at 17” but you sure lose the profile on the front.

Everybody has 'em. But i went with bf goodrich so i could run 2 size tires with the same tread pattern.

I have coopers on all four corners..275/60/15 rears and 225/70/15 on the front. Been kicking around going to a Nitto or M/T for more grip on the rear..I don't really want to mix and match but I also don't want to spend all the dough to get all four until the coopers are worn. Buut I'm also getting 'tired' of the lack of traction in L1 when the secondaries open decisions decisions

Your answer is the reason to my question.
It seems as though I find a tire I like, then they don’t seem to have anything wide enough in the rear for the same brand. I’m not looking for anything radical but to get a performance tire the selection is limited. Really thinking about 16” rims. Not to big, not to small and just enough profile but there selection for a matching set is terrible

I'm going to switch from 15" steel wheels with bfg's to 17" with nitto's. Also going with the largest rotor to fill that space. Seems to be the larger diameter the less sidewall your gonna have. Should make a nice performance upgrade.

16" seems to be very limited all around.

Your correct on the 16”. I’ve been thinking 17” as well but didn’t want to small of a profile in the front. The rim I was thinking about going with is available in 16 or 17. American Racing Torque Thust. The tire just suck.
How big of a tire will you be going with on those 17’s?

I run a 295-45 out back, a 275-40 up front. I like the big and little look. Nitto NT-05 tires.

Nitto 555 275/50ZR17 for the rear, 245/45ZR17 front; both of which can fit on a 8"w wheel without to much headache. Hotchkis leaf springs with 2" drop Spindels.
I'll be getting the Torq-Thrust VN309, good looking wheel and not all that expensive.
This way I can get a real performance upgrade that I can enjoy for a couple of years at least on my car before I get the 18" HRE wheels that I really want.

That front tire is 26.7”. Any issues with rubbing? Are you maxed out in height?
My wheels are 18" diameter, sorry I forgot to mention.
Also, I don't always trust published heights but you may be right. The only rubbing I get is with the inside edge of the sidewall against the frame rail, a smooth surface. No rubbing to the fender at all.
I am actually lowered a little bit. I am more into handling and the roads are pretty decent here so I don't need to have the car higher than stock.

Back in the day, we used to swap out the rear tires for a pair of Mickey Thompson or Pro-Trac tires, not matching what was up front.

I started off with Firestone Wide Ovals but have switched to Nitto 555's in the front and will shortly be putting the same in the rear (305/35/19's), I like matching brands all the way around.

Matching brands and tread patterns is difficult when looking for anything performance and wanting taller tires in the rear.
I searched for over a week before coming up with something that worked out on both ends and gave me the ability to order wheels and tires that matched.
Did I mention it was also expensive...
In the end I was happy with the way it turned out.
17x9.5 with 5.5" backspacing on the rear with 275-60-17 tires (about 30" tall)
15x6 with 3" backspacing on the front with 225-70-15 tires

You just answered my next question.
I thought about a 16” rim for the front and a 17” rim for the rear with American Torque Thrust and GoodYear Eagle Sport.
Whatcha think???

I like staggered, mines 18's and 19's.

If you are going blackwall, matching not as big a deal? RWL, then my OCD sez matching brands/model. For better tire selection stick with 15, 17, or 18; 16's are passe'. For me, I am sticking with 15's only because I know the look I want, already have the wheels, and I will buy the tires later.

It's always optimum to run same tread design
front & rear,but if it's not a daily driver wouldn't
be concerned.

I'm not a rubber band tire guy...If you're putting them on the 69 B I would use a rear tire that will fill up the wheel well. I had to push the limit with the wheel selection to fit the advertised wheel width for the tires I chose. I tried to mount mine on a friends 68 coronet...due to difference in the wheel well openings they would not even slide in and engage the studs. A Road Runner...GTX and Satellite have larger wheel openings...at least in 1970 they do.
I pushed the limits to get the height...width and stance I wanted. My rear was moved back 3/4" and I also run 1 1/2" lowering blocks on the Super Stock Springs to lower it down some.
In the end what you like is all that matters... .02
I kind of did the same thing with my 65 Belvedere II Project that has fallen completely off the rails...
I chose a rear wheel and tire that I wanted and built everything else around those...
I had found a 17x11 with 7 1/2" backspace TT-2 wheel very similar to what you posted.
It looks like a stock 8" wheel from the side but has a chit-ton of back space.
Thought if I could ever find a tire for these that was tall I'd get them...Stumbled across Hoosier 31.50x16.50 17's and bought the rear tires and the rear wheels. (Big Mistake in a way)
The openings in these wheels in 17's are so large you can see everything behind them...The little 10" drum brakes and the 8 3/4 rear looked out of place...
I upgraded to a Dana 60 and 13" Wilwood vented-slotted-drilled rear rotors and Polished Calipers. The rotors have the parking brake shoes inside the rotor hub so since I was going with a stick I would still have a parking brake.
The tires were too wide to retain the inner or outer wheelhouses so everything got cut out and new 2x3 frame rails and a 3 link with coil-overs went back in.
Ultimately the point I want to make is don't get too carried away as it will cost a small fortune...

Cooper Cobras on the front
Nitto 555R's on the rear. Cobras in 275/60R15 will melt down off the line under full throttle.
