I just got the word today, that a buddy of mine, who hauls scrap metal for a living, is planning on hauling in a '65 Sport Fury. This same car, he rescued from some kids trying to sell it at the local scrap metal yard. He said that all he wants is what he has in it. I don't have the $ right now, dental visits, etc. The car is straight, small amount of bondo, appears to have been restored in the past 30 years. No motor or trans, needs windshield and back glass, and interior. It makes me sick to see this happen, but he's desperate for the cash. Any takers can text me at 402-369-4569. It's in NE Nebraska, and he is hauling it by this weekend. I may have to go kick him real hard!!

Pictures would sure help . . .

He told me today, that he would sell it to me for $400. I just have too many projects, and not enough time and money for anything else. I'm trying to downsize and get to the point of starting resto on my '68 RR

I hope he isn't asking more than scrap value for it.

That would be kind of stupid wouldn't it. "I'll scrap it if you don't buy it for $3K"

Well I'm sorry for him but at least he's not saying he is going to scrap then asking big bucks. On the other hand if someone did want it and the guy is just hard on his luck they really shouldn't take advantage and hopefully he'll get a little more IF it's worth it. He apparently bought it for a little more than scrap value from the kids.

I hope some one local can snag it so we don't loose another one to the crusher.

I'd be interested in it if was a 64 S/F. Have people in Lincoln NE. 65 S/F is a C-body and probably worth about 400.00 Get some parts off it and let it go. 8.75 chunk, BB stuff?, ect.

You'd be amazed how many people have told me that. Want 2 or 3K or I'm going to crush it. So 400 or 3K, nothing in between? Nope. Some people just have really bad business skills.

I've got a project . . . but for $400 to save it from the crusher I'd do it . . . But I'd have to figure out how to get it back to NC ( half the US away ) . . .

And I still don't have a clue what kind of shape it's in . . .

Yeah I know what you mean Mark. I've met some really bone headed and arrogant people when it comes to talking cars. Almost 100% were not dyed in the wool Mopar folks though in my experience thank goodness

I tried once to buy a Firebird that was up the road from me, He wouldn't sell it to me for anything, i even told him i wasn't keeping it just fixing it up and painting it and out the door, he kept telling me at first he was going to do it himself, he bought new seat covers, very nice ones, then one day it was gone, he destroyed the car, took a knife to the interior and sold it to a junk yard, he said he didn't want anyone around here to get it.. I couldn't believe it but his brother told me it was true, loosing money just because someone around here might fix and drive it..

Some pictures of the car would be a great help. If you could post some of the exterior, the rear including good pictures of the tail lights and trim around the tail lights, the dash (hoping it's an A/C car). Pictures of this would help me decide if it's worth the expense to ship it to Tampa. I have a 65 Sport Fury that is in the body shop. It's just had it's first spray of color and looks great. Finding parts for these is an immense pain.

I've seen it happen more than once. Some car is nothing but scrap until someone shows an interest in it... then it becomes $$$$$. I just saw that on Fast & Loud a couple of weeks ago. Rawlings went to some scrap yard where they were about to scrap a car he wanted, and as soon as the scrapper knew he wanted it, the price went up about ten times the scrap value.

But if this guy only wants $400, that's about spot on for that car.

Well....I did it. I bought it today for 400. Turns out it's a '66, according to the vin# on the drivers door jamb. Fender tag has it as SS1 paint, which is the soft yellow, and it appears to have been repainted that color. Paint appears fairly decent. Someone was stripping it down making a drag car, but nothing got butchered, just heater removed, and side trim removed, but still in trunk. Reason for confusion on what year it is, the only difference I can see is the style of side trim from '65 to '66, and when I tried to search vin#, it didn't work, as the '65 uses 10 caracters, and '66 uses 13. Originally was 318 automatic console, and does not appear to have had a/c. Bucket seats are missing, along with console and shifter. I have a 318 and 727 from '72 d100 that will be first to power it. Maybe 413 clone for the future? Not sure yet. Anyone know where I can get buckets and console?

Sweet!! Check my post. Decided to buy it anyway. Does not appear to be a/c car, part of dash missing.

Glad you did . . . cause I would have done it if you didn't ( just what I need - another project ) . . . ( smile )

Keeps me out of the bars ! ! !

It will be awhile before I do much with it. Too many irons in the fire, and I will have to figure out how to get a title. Nebraska sucks when it comes to getting a title on an incomplete, non-running vehicle.
