Back in the day when I was 25 years younger we built small blocks for a hobby and I was able to get into a buddy's 318, he found some 360 heads at the junk yard - back in the days when you could still find that kind of stuff around here - had them worked with hardened valve seats and such and triple springs, good valves etc.

Question is do they still do it that way? I mean use the 360 heads on a 318 to gain some high rpm power. Or is it just easier nowadays to get aluminum heads and call it good?

It still can be done that way. But the problem is cost of rebuild vs. a Edelbrock head. The Edel. head flows OOTB like a well prep'd 360 head. IF the Edel. head is prep'd to flow the numbers they advertise, then all the better..

IF you can find a decent 360 head, then minor machine work will be needed for upgrading the springs. A small list of "DO's" for a 360 head on the cheap can still add up. IF I was to do a 360 head, in addition to the above would be milling the head down for some compression and then valve work, 3 angle valve job. I would not do 2.02's unless it was going to be a heavy breather and a high winding screamer.

A lot depend on the performance level your looking for. The next problem is a 318 in a B body car is really best left alone for basic transportation duties. Stroking it with a 4 or 4.25 crank is the only way I'd keep it there.

68 barracuda - going to bring it back to life soon before summer ends. that motor used to scream and scream loud lol 6-8k rpm runs was not uncommon, need to tear it down and refresh it but I be the heads are still in good shape.

The 360 head is a fine choice. Here is the catch22 of it. The cost of porting VS. a new set of aluminum heads and the extra time/money spent at the machinest making sure there in good shape and ready to run.

Edelbrock's cost what? Plus a trip to check'em out?
360 heads what in order to flow what Edelbrock advertises there heads at?
