my 65 Barracuda was a (-)$15 option, seat belt delete car. The rear belts, they added a post type anchor. The belt end has 2 "J" hooks facing eachother, and the grap the eye of the anchor.
I added rear belt in my 64 (Fairlane) with an aftermarket belt set. Seating for 3 required 4 anchor bolts. 1 and each end, 2 on either side of the tunnel. When you drill the floor, make sure you dont hit anything. Back up the bolt with a large pattern fender washer, to spread the bolt load over a larger area.
My owner's manual says belts could be added - there are spots in the floor for the "dealer to install them". Now I wish I hadn't put dynamat there. I'll have to guess...
I just ordered a pair of lap belts for the rear seat of my '64 from Wesco. They should be here in a couple of days. My understanding is even though the car didn't come with them, the seat belt law applies in WI. Some people think if the car didn't come with them, you are ok without them, but not true according to my friends in law enforcement. More importantly, I think they're a good idea safety-wise anyway.
One could argue that our cars did not come with anti lock brakes...do we need to put them on? But I do agree, seat belts are a safety issue and you better get them and use them if people are gonna ride in the back.
