Shipping 2 light weight drag wheels and tires cross country, which is better UPS or Fed X.
Thanks Dave

Probably not a big difference in the price between them!

I'm going to guess FEDEX .. UPS caters and gives better prices to businesses

Or you could try Fastenal if you both have stores on each end.

I just got a quote to ship 2 bucket seats from Oregon to Florida......
Fedex ground almost $200...
UPS $230.....
Greyhound $75.

Was that too easy or what?????????:blob1:

I think it will be easier next time. The guys at the store were both new and had never done it before and neither had I. I think this store just started participating. I know how to do it all online now and deal with my contact in KS who sets it all up.

Well the delivery made it safe and sound to Maryland from STL area on Wednesday so it was about a week and the weather was bad. $105 for a 72-80 style tail gate and a pair of magnum exhaust manifolds. I packaged them together so the package was pretty damn long and fairly heavy and I used a lot of card board and some Styrofoam. It was a good experience for me an will be even easier next time I'm sure now that the stores broke in and I know what I'm doing.

Fastenal told me I had to crate the tail gate since it was an exterior body part / sheetmetal. Apparently they've had issues with claims. Well I felt pretty good about my packaging and asked the buyer if he minded if we waived damages. He said OK and they accepted the shipment but the shipping clerk had to get an OK from a supervisor on it so it's probably a case by case basis for sheetmetal.

I think regular shaped things like tail gate, bumper, rear end housing, etc would probably not be too bad to wrap in card board. Fenders might be trickier and have less rigidity / strength in some areas.

The buyer OR the seller can arrange and pay for shipping. Can't be seller arranges and buyer pays apparently as I initially was led to believe from talking to the store. The best bet is to use their website and know both store addresses and their "5 digit" which is their for name for their store code. My local one is ILBEL which is Illinois and Belleville or the town.

All good there Tallhair ! I am looking to use them on some parts also.
Talked to my buddy at my local store and he said it was a snap !
Best deal for the money for sure !!

Yup, it all went very well on my Fastenal store end code MDPRN in Maryland. The clerks were very helpful, and actually helped me uncarton the parts for inspection. No parts were damaged in shipping and I felt like Fastenal had a pretty good system in place for us car guys trying to ship larger items. Their prices are very reasonable also. I run a Restoration/Repair shop at my home, and after talking with the store manager, We may be buying some fasteners and supplies from them down the road. They will deliver to my shop here on a weekly basis if needed. The whole experience with Fastenal turns out to be a very good two way street.
