Guys just a reminder, when shipping parts take the time to pack them very well!!!! I recieved a grill today that left in a unblemished state and arrived all broken. Take the time to box the items up to withstand the ride. I have always been told by UPS guys to box it up to take a 3 ft drop. My interpitation is that means thrown from 3 ft. Old parts are brittle and usually don't take a lot to break. I feel for the guy who I bought it from. He's taking it back and refunding my money. My lesson for the day Grasshopper

I ship between 300-1000 packages every year and maybe have had 4 or 5 damaged parts in 10 years.
I use the 6' drop rule.

And may I add, do not forget to tape the bottom of the box. I could not tell you how many boxes I saw come in the APO when I was overseas that had the top of the boxes taped up so well and you couldn't even see the top. Yet the bottom of the box would have one strip of tape on it for a 30 or 40lb box. Also, do not leave empty space in boxes if possible, make sure they are sturdy. Expect your box to be at the bottom of a stack of many other boxes in a container on a plane. And the weight stacked on top of your box could be a couple hundred pounds depending on the size of your box. Boxes DO get slid, tossed at times, stacked on top of each other, dropped, and other various things in transit to your local post office or to your house.

Lesson # 2 for this deal, make sure that you will get reimbursed for your return shipping if part doesn't arrive as stated 37$ lesson.......

To piggy back on this topic...Don't send oily, greasy, rusty, dirty parts without at least a cleaning. Don't know of how many times the UPS driver or Postal Delivery person has been ticked off by the leaking. Yet I see all over, parts for sale that look like crap because the seller wouldn't take the time to clean up their parts and then they send them off as is. Just boggles the mind....

My family always give me a hard time about my packaging when I ship things. They say a bomb could go off next to it and my package would survive because of all the stuffing and packaging tape I use (better safe then sorry) could get expensive though if I had to ship a lot.

I bought a holley carb from someone on this forum, and to my utter astonishment when I opened up the box they had put the carb in the box loose with an old shirt under it for packaging. The box was about 6 inches to big in every direction so you can guess what condition the carb was in when it arrived, completely smashed up. I could not believe a grown man had packaged it that way and expected it arrive safely. Complete lack of common sense.

Aldal, I'm the same way, just ask Daytona Kid :hatwave:

INSURANCE ! I put it on all my shipments and it pays off ! I just got a payment from FedEx as thay busted a box open and post some posi parts I sold a guy. I reinburst himand thay paid me also.

Well, one thing I use as a rule: Never, EVER, EVER ship anything via UPS.
They are overpriced, and have too many rules regarding what can and can't.
I have NEVER had a package delivered to me that was not damaged in some way via UPS. They drop the package and RUN so you can't refuse it as well.
I actually had them deliver a package that was so badly damaged the item had fallen out of the box. They delived the empty "box" to my doorstep.
I have know many people who hve worked or known someone who has and they basically play soccer with packages. That thing about "3 foot drop" ... you shouldn't have to.
If I go to purchase something and they only way they will ship is UPS, I will cancel my order.
I don'y know why ANYONE would use them at all.

There I said my peace on that.

Here is what happens to hemi K head when it gets packed in a single layered carboard box and then shipped from MN to CA.
It had insurance on it but the seller did not even try to claim. Rev Ronnie is going to fix it for me and the seller agreed to pay for the repairs.

Really!!!! A couple of things here. Most of the damages occur at the SORT FACILITIES that UPS has around the US and Overseas before the Driver even gets a hold of your package. Same is also true for DHL, FEDEX, and the USPS. It's all about time and expediting the package flow. For the most part, UPS has done alright by me. I have an account with them so any shipping of parts I will process the shipping here at home. Same with the others. The biggest issue I have is that 90% of the time, packages I receive are not efficiently packaged so the end result is either damage to the actual package or the item packaged in the box or both. I will always offer Insurance on anything with a value over $100.00 or if the purchaser specifically asks for it. Most of the Carriers will cover anything up to the $100.00 limit anyway. Their pricing actually isn't all that over priced compared to others. UPS and the USPS are quite close in their rates and if you are not aware of it, work together for deliveries. UPS will hand off to the Local USPS divisions, packages that originated with UPS for the USPS to deliver. Mostly smaller type stuff.

I am not trying to sway you in your dislike as that is your choice. Most here I dare say use UPS at various times and have not had any serious incidents. Then again I could be wrong...IMHO

About 3 months ago I bought Edelbrock heads and a bunch of parts from summit. I live in the country and have a large dog who has a shock coller with a distance. I have a bench about 40' from the road beside me drive way that is out of reach of the dog for my girls to wait on the school bus. USPS allways leaves packages on the bench. UPS left all my parts about 6' from the road under a tree. The head boxes had Edelbrock heads on the box. Im glad I got home before they were taken by someone.

Now that's just plain dumb of the Driver to do something like that. Had it been me, I would have been on the phone to UPS and reporting the incident to the Supervisor that handles the route you live on. Supposedly the Drivers are somewhat intelligent...I know I know that is debatable...but a box clearly marked as Edlebrock and has heads...they ain't cheap either...in those boxes, left out under a tree is just asking and inviting the delivery to suddenly develop some legs. Ya gotta wonder about that????

There are a few gear heads out my way. I was pissed but glad to get my parts. Its running now so it turned out.
