shipping trend

A recent trend i've noticed on eBay lately is to list items at dirt cheap prices and bump up the shipping costs. It's like shipping sticker shock at first glance but if you check into it your likely going to be paying less for the same item at a higher purchase cost and lower shipping.

The advantage to the seller is lower insertion and final value fees. A $100.00 item sale on eBay can end up costing almost $20.00 in fees including the PayPal, (also eBay), fees. Sell the same item for $10.00.... lower fees and no fee for the higher shipping cost. Likely won't be long before eBay catches on though.

Have to add that this trend of low prices and higher shipping charges on Ebay is bad for us.. UNLESS your like me buying from the U.S and having it shipped to Canada, Canada customns can only charge duty on the selling price of the item and NOT the shipping charges... So really its win win for me :)

15 bucks to ship a few stickers, that's pretty stinky.

When I was restoring a 65 mustang a year ago I ordered a bunch of parts from a place called virginia classic mustangs because they seemed prety good on part prices. I figured out where those guys are making their money when I got the shipping bill.

You would think they would get you the best shipping deal possible so you would do bussiness with them again. How can one person ship an item for $5.50 and the same item for $25.00 from another seller. They shouldnt make profit from shipping ,UPS ,and people like that are making a profit already.i know everyone has to eat ,but how many people do we have to feed.

Hey Hemifried ,$15,for 4 small stickers .i need to get into the shipping bussiness LOL

LOL I hear ya brother!.... I wasn't saying that what they where doing was right by any means! Thats highway freaking robbery no matter how you look at it! For the price of a stamp the shipping on it should be free.
Us! ---->:icon_butt: :whip2: <---- them!

Thats crazy! but I hear you, I have been anticipating buying a radio faceplate from them. The faceplate is 19.95. The shipping came to over 11 bucks + an extra 2.50 for insurance... I assume it would fit in a decent envelope? Btw in case you buy anymore soon discount code SAVE20 for 20% off. Oh but the faceplate i need is exempt from discounts!!! ugh...

I think year one has nailed everybody with the ripoff shipping. I stopped dealing with them and pick up stuff as I travel around when I need something. Everybody needs to stop buying from yearone for a complete day so they might wake up and understand they are ripping us off.

THis will be my last time for Year one and Atlas, and i hope bussiness people some how get to read this.I have to add more ,we have to start standing up to these people ,and boycot there company,s.Even oil companys,if everyone didnt buy gas for one day a week ,they wouldnt know what to do with the access. We need to stick together and do something.

About 15 years ago my wife bought a headliner and carpet for the Cuda I had from Year One and when she asked for a catalog, they said something like 10 bucks. Told them to forget it and we wouldn't be back.

Most if not all the products in the Year One catalog are available either through other vendors or direct from the manufactors, like Legendary, Soft Seal, etc. The only deal to be had from Year One is with their volume discount or a promo coupon.

I called Year One last year and started to tell the guy what I needed and asked for there catalog and just told them i wasn't paying 15 bucks to order over 600 dollars of parts and maybe i just got a guy in a decent mood or the price of some of the things he asked me i needed were enough to warrant him to do it, but he said ill just send you one and he did, As far as im concerned Year One got there 15 bucks easy enough, they are pricey i think. one thing ill give them every box came looking like it was just packaged.

We just bought a fuel pump fitting from Y.O. and had to pay $30 shipping. They said they couldn't ship it in a 'jiffy' bag for some reason.
It came in a box about 9" square. It was actually in an Eaton box (the fittings' manufacturer) inside the bigger box.

Sure it got to us in good condition but it would have been just as safe to use a padded bag and should have been more like $10 i reckon to ship overseas.

They did give us a catalog for free, by the way, but we did have to ask for it. In years gone by, they used to include one with every order as a matter of course.

Shipping prices are bad, the way its going with fuel prices and all i sometimes wonder how much advantage company's are taking because of it. Year one is expensive, When someone asks where to get a part and i have to say sometimes Year One i cringe at it knowing the prices but sometimes its the best way. My first order was one of 3,,, i used that to just say i hate the prices of Year One. But I cant argu with myself about it, if i don't like the prices then i should not buy them and i don't unless i have to, i don't need a part that is the real name thing if i can get a part at Autozone cheaper and does the same thing. If the fuel fitting you bought uk-maxie was something you couldn't find anywhere then your stuck, which sucks... I don't like depending on a company that knows they have a hold of my wallet.. To bad you couldn't use a local parts or hardware store to get what you need. Im done myself with Year One unless i absolutely have no other option. Its not the shipping with me as is the prices but it takes more then we know to re-manufacture pieces and parts im sure, the least they could do is offer a catalog free considering what they charge for parts. They want to sell you a catalog to buy there part, then they offer a hat that says Year One for $ to advertise there parts. lol, i don't think so.
