short visit

heres why i hate to visit brand x sites,http://www.v8buick.com/showthread.php?t=198495

I don't visit brand X sites, .......sounds like some Goof Ball is trying to brain wash some folks, or someone didn't know how to tune or drive his Mopar or it is all Bullshit. I have had several Hemi's back in the day and I never had a problem a measly 400 Buick, I have out ran 455 Buick's with out any problems, the toughest race I ever had was with one Wicked-Assed Six Pack.

The Buick guys that run in the Pure Stock (etc) know that they don't run unless you put a divider in the exhaust manifolds........which isn't allowed by the rules.

The two center cylinders share one large opening in the exhaust manifold. So to help evacuate they add a divider in it to make "two" ports in the manifold instead of just one.

I liked the thread where the guy wants to trade his 68 Hemi Dart for a GSX.....
Douche....

Sounds like the engineers for Buick at Grandma Motors didn't have Horsepower in mind when they designed these.

I think it's ultra sad when I web site has a forum deadicated to just bologna stories of defeating HEMI cars.

Now, a properly built Buick can run, don't doubt it. But, ow often do you see a built Buick? There doopy expensive.

Ya know, I owned a 455GS 4spd convert. It was wicked fast and fun. I wouldn't go around saying that I beat any car everytime, though. Would it hold it's own against a Hemicar? Somedays, maybe. Somedays, maybe not. Would a 400GS hold it's own against a Hemi? Um, no.

We have to know what the enemy is doing so a visit from time to time is not a bad idea. However, don't underestimate a properly built 455 Buick. The factory Stage 1 cars ran well and it doesn't take much to get mid 12's out of the 4000 lb luxury liner. 510 ft/lbs of torque at maybe 3000 RPM is pretty impressive. Unlike the other GM 455's the Buick is nicely over square with the same bore as a 440 and a 3.9" stroke. Now here's something you probably didn't know. 383 MoPar intake manifolds fit the Buick 455 with a set of simple adapters because the port spacing is close enough. I think Kenne Bell used to make them.

Beating a factory street HEMI is not that tough nor terribly impressive. I did it with my slightly warmed over 383 in my 68 RR - twice - because the HEMI owner couldn't believe he just got beat by a cheapo Road Runner (his words) and had to do it again. A good 340 Dart would do it too. The only benefit of the HEMI is it has the potential to make huge power numbers and hold together doing it because of superior heads and the typical rock solid MoPar lower end with added cross bolts. A street HEMI is just a crippled race engine, plain and simple.

I vote BS on this one, although I've run into quite a few people who didn't know how to tune and/or drive their car.

Are you sure? I don't recall the Buicks having Siamese exhaust ports. Olds, and some Pontiacs yes.

The enemy site i have been to have been non helpful. My son has a 79 Monte Carlo, and the times i have been to the NMCOA website, to ask a question about something, i get a rash of nonsense or it never gets answered, darn Chevy guys.

I should go to a Camaro site or something to see what they actually talk about. Never done that. hmmm

I just killed an hour reading threads from that Buick site. If you go back a couple of threads, all the talk is about beating import bikes... Seems like there is more "back in the day Buicks beat Hemi's" and less actual stories about beating Hemi's.

But I guess if they feel the need to compensate with embellished stories, we should leave 'em to it.
