shoullder belts

standard as far as i know on coupes hard tops &sedans not convertibles. have many b-bodies all have shoulder belts.

Standart on all 69's with roofs as it was federal law. As a matter of fact Jan. 1 1968 is when they had to have them. Just like head rests were a must by Federal law as of Jan 1 1969.

well that sucks as of right now i have a lap belt only i was kinda hoping to play the card that it was only optional for shoulder belts but sometimes the facts hurt. i wonder what the cops would say if i only have the lap belt technically i still have a belt?

Shoulder belts were optional on convertibles?

Yes and a very rare option. They tied into the back seat belt bolts.

Doug,

There is a Dark Blue 67 Hemi GTX convert. that frequents the Pavilions in Scottsdale that has this option. Now this would LIKELY be a one of one car.

Lap belt only is OK here in Florida, even with the shoulder belts snapped up on the headliner. I think as long as you have a belt on you'll be ok.

Really? I took a look at the 1969 service manual and it had a diagram of a belt with a rod through it at the end and a series of gaskets and clips and plates to dress the opening through the package tray. Just checking but was the Charger available with this option?

I think you are speaking of the REAR should belt option, which attached as you are speaking of. The convert. FRONT belts attach through the rear package shelf also because they have no roof to attach to as the hardtops do.

Oh you thought I meant Roadrunner?

RR is the factory designation for rear so I use that to avoid confusion for restorations

Yes, i did misunderstand that, however again ALL B body shoulder belt applications are the same for hardtops and converts. In other words, if it is a hardtop the front belts attach to the roof. If they are rear belts they go into the package shelf. If it is a convert they also go into the package shelf. And before you ask, i don't know if you ordered fronts anf rears on a convert. but i would suspect that the went into the package shelf side by side with the rearsw inboard.
