I see classic Industries makes a side cover for a 4 speed console, but yet when I go to order it, it has been discontinued. The side cover goes on the drivers side of the console because of the 4-speed hump. My questions is, do you need it, or is the carpet that I have for it ok without the side cover?

1. You don't "need" it. I ran my car for 20 yrs. without one. It basically covers the lower grommet where the shifter comes through the floor.
2. Your small carpet piece will NOT fit the console without that "side hump"

The massive hole in the console plastic allows passage of the shiftier handle "bent" portion to pass when going onto reverse. Not to cover the grommet as you say....Hence is why Mother Mopar made the fiberglass cover with extension mind you to accommodate this from day one.....

The reason why you have gotten away with it is due to the slick resin backing on the carpet to let it slide....Hopefully, it never grabs....

I'm confused. That bent portion clears my carpet by 1-1/2". If the side-cover isn't there at all, the shifter just goes into reverse in the hole....where the side cover would be. I am missing your point on this one. It would work just fine with no console at all in the car, just as long as you have the lower grommet to close the hole in the floorboard, the rest of the console (side cover included) is "for looks"

In 69 reverse is down and to the left and forward.....We are referring to a 69 b body in this thread, right?

Mine almost touches the cover when down left and then forward....2nd gear the handle almost slides down my thigh.....

Stick with the correct model year.....not all handles/units are the same....

I hope we are all talking about the fiberglass side cover where the carpet goes and not the 4 speed hump. The console will cover the shifter and all of those parts, its the piece that goes behind the carpet. Moparnation 74, shows the right picture of it in the link.

Yes, I am referring solely to the use and purpose of the fiberglass side cover....and that is the correct new side cover you need my friend....

FYI use your old trim, the new is horrible...the trim is the hardest piece to put on, relating to the hump side only... assemble the whole console out of the car.....

moparfanUSA, the side covers are readily available from REM to my knowledge. I know that REM is supplying many of the different vendors the cover. PG Classics is probably doing the cover themselves overseas and then importing them. The REM covers are made in PA. I just sold three of them this month. I will send you a private message as REM does not sale to the general public.
