Swap out the plates? Heard of it being done before. Was the car supposed to have a dual point setup? My old junk ran fine with a single and never saw much difference between my dual point car vs the ones with a single....not to mention the extra time it took to tune a dual system just didn't seem worth the extra effort.
What dual point parts do you have? No matter what you will need to get the rotor phasing correct or it won't work. If you just want to add a set of points you better get the point to point phasing correct too.
Somewhere on here I posted a thread about converting a Prestolite dual point to factory electronic and it works well. I had an old MSD 6 lying around so I use that as the ignition box.
i have two complete dis one duel one single, must be for a smal and big block, the single has a longer shaft but iam not sure...as for running i know duel point are better at high rpms around 6000 + but i wont be going there lol is there a difference between a small block and a big block dis?
Yes, the small block is different from the big block....one has a shorter shaft and both turn in different directions. The big block turns counterclockwise vs the small block. This also puts the vac canister in a different location. Also, the B vs the RB have different shaft lengths....
I have used small block innerds to convert a BB dist over to electronic from points. So I would say that the dual points plate should be able to be moved over to the BB dist housing.
The only thing that I would look closely at is the cam alignment once over in the BB housing if the SB cam is used.
I know that in an electronic dist setup the reluctor fits one of two ways. The manufacture provides two roll pin holes and a little arrow showing which one is used for a Clockwise or Counter Clockwise rotation setup. This would have to be compensated in some way with a points dist as well, because you wouldn't have the correct breaker open / close timing in relation to the rotor to cap position.
I will say that if you are trying to put a Prestolite dual point breaker plate in the aluminum Chrysler body it will physically fit but one of the mounting lugs doesn't line up. Also the vac advance connecting arm is different and will have to be modified. I went with the electronic conversion because I wanted to retain the factory look.
