Try unscrewing the end of the slide hammer. The threaded end might screw right into your pump.

Yeah I have one down at the shop. It is one of those cheap ones you find in the autobody section of pep boys,autozone,etc. I`ll swing by and pick it up. It screws right into the pump on the 727.

Chris,

Don't need a slide hammer....There are two holes in the pump housing that are threaded. get a long bolt or use a sprag roller bearing and slide it in the hole then tighten the bolt and it will push the pump housing right out.

KEV, ON A POWERGLIDE????? :icon_surprised::confused:

I have always used a puller T-Bar type against the input shaft with long threaded rod down to the pump threaded holes. Never tried slide hammering a pump out of the housing before?? Is that a good idea???? I would think that would lift one side only causing a bind, and potential damage to the edge of the pump or trans case housing.

OH sorry.... I didn't see the top post. I forgot you're putting a Chevy Transmission behind you DODGE MOTOR!!!!!! :angryfire:

input shaft fell out of the powerglide. need to put it back in. torqueflites going back in by the end of the week. its being fixed early this week.

Just take a piece of chain, maybe 3 ft long, and attach it to the two bolt holes on opposite sides, grab the center of the chain, and then hold it near the middle of the pump jerk outward, and you'll be surprised at how easily it will pull it out. That's how I pull all the pumps on my torqueflites when I'm re-doing one. Should work on a powerglide as well.

I just use a 6" long bolt that threads into the pump and a piece of brass barstock that's about 1.25" in diameter and 2.5" long drilled through the center to slide over the bolt. A few small taps with the brass against the bolt head and the pump slides right out.
