I took my 1966 Plymouth Satellite to the track for the first time since i have had it & its the first time i ran a car at the track in over 20 + years i had a blast on my first run... :) Then i got ready for my second run Pulled in to the water box then out did my burn out felt great then it happened.....:(
I heard a noise so i shut it down after my friend Sam & me started checking everything i could at the track one of the racers came over and asked how it was going and he asked if he could help i said sure so i started the car and he said shut it off he knew what it was i didn't since i had never had this problem ever i though i had spun a rod bearing or a torque converter bolt came loose that was not it........ I have a Comp roller cam & lifters one of the lifters roller tip lost its neddle bearing and it started to eat into the cam & lifter.. need i say this really sucks but its part of racing and having a car..... :) so if any of you guys have a good used roller cam lets talk maybe do some trading.

My current cam is a Comp Cam 308/575 i have the heads & stall & so on for a little bigger cam.....:headbang::headbang::glasses2::glasses2::icon_super::icon_super::icon_super::icon_super::icon_super::icon_super::icon_super::icon_super::icon_super::icon_super::icon_super::icon_super::icon_super::icon_super::icon_super::icon_super::icon_super::icon_super::icon_super::icon_super:

Well that sucks! Hope you get it up and running soon, so you can give us some numbers.

That does royally suck, I only hope it didn't mess up a bunch of other stuff too...

allot of things could have caused this...

I wonder 1st what caused the lifter failure ??,
before you just replace the camshaft & liters, timing chain & gears etc...
I'd check the bearings, take off the oil pump cover & inspect/clean it out too, I'd pull the oil pan it & go thru the engine, thoroughly clean & inspect everything, it's just cheap insurance...
you never know where the stuff gets into, metal debris is probably the worst thing in your engine...
hopefully a bunch of debris/stuff didn't get into other areas, that will bite you in the butt later...
was this a solid roller or a hydr. roller ??, just curious mainly...
was the valves clearances/lash checked &/or maintained regularly, set properly ??
did you over rev the engine/float the valves in the burn out or last pass ??
was there adequate valve to piston clearances to begin with ??
did it bend any push-rods or have any contact with valve to piston ??, a possible cause of the failure...
did you have the proper matching springs retainers & locks, for that specific camshaft ??
was it lack of oil ?? any burning or discoloration on the cam or lifter or push-rod & rocker adjuster tips ??
were the lifters just old/worn out ??, how old/new, just curious mainly...
is there an issue with the lifter bore ?? worn block/wrong clearances in lifter bore etc., somewhat a common problem, with these old blocks that have 80k-100k miles on them when rebuilt, for performance use...
any excessive cam gear wear, chain stretch/fatigue ??
was there a camshaft button on this set up ?? to keep the cam from walking forward...

sorry just spit-balling here

We are looking at everything that it could be and looking at all we did when putting the motor together as with any man made parts it could fail and the neddle bearing gave way so they are all getting rebuilt at Comp Cams.. Plus i will be looking at the oil pan & other items as well... :)

There is another comp cam and roller lifter set up for sale in the for sale section.
I have ran that same cam and lifter set up and I have a another one in my new motor.
I think that is about as good as it gets unless you have real good flowing heads and all that goes with it. If you go bigger then most likely need better valve springs and as you probably know it goes on and on and on.
Good luck, I hate that you had trouble.

Yea i am going to have all my lifters rebuilt & i am going to go alittle bigger on my cam and i have the heads that should provide more than enough flow.

man that sucks hope everything go's well keep us posted

I will do that for sure... I hope to have it running soon.

Thats a bummer as I am sorry to hear that. That is one reason I went with a solid flat tappet because I put alot of street miles on my car and I did not want to worry about a roller lifter down the road. But it sounds like this happened much to soon. How long has the cam been in the car ? Ron

Maybe a year it was used just like the lifters but i got it from a very good friend and i know he is good for his word i just think it was just one of those things.!.... :) I have a good friend who has a 312/590 mopar cam & lifters & springs may ask him to sell them to me.

I like the Mopar .590 cam as in the right combo it is killer. My cam is a custom grind but its close to the .590 as it is: 264 & 270 @ .050 with .585 & .592 lift. Has a 110 LSA and I have it in on a 106 ICL. But I use 1.6 rockers for about .630 lift. Good luck getting yours back together as I know you want to get back to the track and get some good passes on it. Ron

What lifters were you using,The 829's?? If so,upgrade the something like the 848's that have oil going to the needles in the roller and you can also use the pushrod oil option that comes with the 848 style.
Sorry to hear that,I have done that 2 times. The 1st time the entire oil system was contaminated:angryfire:

I use the MP 590 solid cam.... Mine is topped with 1.6:1 rockers...

Yea a very good friend has helped me out i am getting a 312/590 mopar cam with lifters and matching springs & lock & retainers so i am set.

Yea i already have a set.... so i am good so far knock on wood...... LOl Would you happen to know the Installed hight for those springs if not i can look it up...:)

I can't help you their.... Every manufacture of springs will have a different installed height based on coil diam, seat pressure, etc....
