I picked it up from the PhoeXXX Auto-body (name disguised) in California City after 4.5 years awaiting completion.

So far I have paid them $5,300 PLUS $1,200 for the Dupont Chroma Base paint and clear-coat+hardner I personally purchased to sweeten the deal.

This is how it look as of today 22 July 2013.
It is now in a different shop after careful inspection.

"Our" decision? I'm delivering it to be media blasted this Friday, 26 July.

Decision was (is) to go to bare metal and start again.

Angry?
YES.
:angry1::angryfire::angry1:

Long term outlook?
1. Small claims lawsuit to start.
(I have a work order signed by the owner stating: "Paid in full" from 2009)

It is a lesson to be learned.

Good luck, I hope all goes well this time...

Man that sux !!! If you were near to my area I could recommend you some high quality fellows that would have you fixed up in no time.

Damn, let me know if you want to have a beer or six one of these days. Hope everything works out with the new shop. I'd really like to see that car complete, '63 Dodges just look so awesome!

Thanks guys...

Yeah, ...Hey Will,
Lets get together for a cold one!
We can take a "PIC" of us drinking a Pabst and then send it to the Pabster......

So, hopefully I bring it to the Media Blast facility (50 miles) Friday morning.
Maybe Thursday afternoon.

Gee, I actually thought about media blasting it and selling it.

"Cut my loses" you know?

Hang in there.....

Don't give up. You've waited this long....... Hang in there for the duration. Otherwise if you decide to quit now, you will always be second guessing your decision later.

I've done it several times before, and I still kick myself for it now.

72 Rally 340 four speed Challenger, a 73 U code sunroof power everything second owner 48 K miles SE Charger that was the actual pace car used at Daytona for one of the races before the 400 in July 73, and a super cool rust free 65 two door post Belvedere to be exact. I'm sure there were others I could add to this list.

Bottom line is this. Our cars are money pits, but we still love them like our kids or dogs.

You never get your investment in money or especially time back out of them unless your very lucky. At least I don't....

hang in there Pal.....

Get everything in writing with the clauses mentioned before this time.

Crime in Italy... Im sorry to hear this, Mark.

my .02; this is unacceptable. have you consulted an atty? might be worth a couple hundo to get advice and re-coup some $$$....

Mario

That is terrible - it amazes me how some of these shops stay in business after screwing people over like this. Sounds like you have some decent ammunition for a lawsuit. Maybe you should consult with a lawyer before the car gets blasted for pictures and then afterwards to hopefully reveal some shoddy workmanship?

Thanks "Team"
Your words of encouragement have pushed me to set a new time-table on the project.

This week I have it prepped for the media blast shop in Palmdale CA (Paciffic Coast Powdercoating)

Wishing Donny was my neighbor!

I'll take pics of it when it is stripped just before the "sealer" is applied.

The first 3 pics show how good the car looked befroe it went into PHOENIX Auto-body, Cal City, CA
It IS a registered CA "Black Plate" car.

The last pic is how it looks as of 24 July 2013.
I cleaned all trm and parts out of interior and trunk.

Pics of the car stripped coming soon...

Thanks for the advice "Mar",
I am getting setup for step 1 and that is a CA "Small claims" suit.
Once I get that judgement I WILL proceed with the Civil attorney, but...if he is going bankrupt, then my chances of any monetary award will be greatly diminished, possibly no monetary award.

But yes...it is in the process.
I kept ALL checks and receipts.

Saturday 03 August 2013 update:
Work performed:

Interior is all removed except for the headliner.
Removing the Headliner today (Saturday 03August 2013)
I am hoping to deliver the 63 Polara to "Pacific Coast Powder-coating & Media blasting" Monday 05 August.
I'm having the entire car stripped because I can not trust the prep work performed by Phoenix Auto in California City.
As you see the car today...this is their $6,500 dollars of work.
$5,300 initially established as full cost and then to help them along after 3 1/2 years i purchased $1,200 of Dupont Chroma Base Black exterior/red interior and hardener+clear coat.
Only thing left was the clear coat. (they used my paint for someone else's project.
Rumor has it they are 5 months behind on rent.
Yeah: Blame that on Obama-nomics OR George Bush!

Also, here is a PIC of the 440 based Max Wedge I'm going to install in the Polara.

More pics soon to come.

Wow, I wasn't expecting to read that this morning Mr. Ski :D but it will be an honor to work with you.

If you're on an advanced time frame, it will be better if we talk about your plans a bit first to make sure I can keep up with you. Even though summers are typically my 'slow' time of the year, it really hasn't been slow at all for the last few years. I'd rather keep you on schedule -- and happy -- even if that means using another coater. I look forward to talking with you whenever you're ready and will be following the new build with interest.

Make sure you have the new shop take photos of any shoddy previous work that was done so you can take that into court as well. Pictures are proof and worth a thousand words. No pictures, no proof that anything ever happened.

I love the golf cart too...
