In my Coronet yesterday and got it all in and plugged
up. Hook up the battery and without moving the t/s lever the
left signals flash. Move the t/s arm in either direction
and the horn blows. The switch has the same color wires
and I'm pretty sure I have the wires right but I must have
something crossed.
Another day in the life of a classic car owner........

I forgot to add, i bought a new flasher. Put the old one back in and the signals work like they are supposed to.
Now i have a separate problem. Sort of a problem i had before but worse. Now i hit the brakes all the signal lights come on. Front and rear. With my foot off the brake they flash, foot on they come on solid. Ordered a new brake light switch.
Also to add insult to injury the alternator isn't charging again. I bought a new alt from Rock auto and a new voltage reg from O'Reilly's. I guess i will take the alt off and get it tested and go from there. Getting to be a pain in the ***.

All I can do is laugh. Same kind of crap my car does to me.

these things have a mind of their own. im getting a chuckle also...but i dont mean to laff ,,,it just reminds me of the 3 Stooges when they were handy men. they would turn on the light switch and the bath tub would fill up....lmao now on to your dilemma:

if you know how to use powered and unpowered test lights....you should have this tracked down in a jiffy. youll just have to take one problem at a time

knowing that the brake light switch should only work the brake lights...youll have to trace it. did all this work properly before you replaced the turn signal switch?

i would start where the problem began as far as tracing wires. this is a simple machine and something simple is wreaking havoc....grounds are important....electricity will follow the path of LEAST resistance...keep that in mind

i have seen 1156 bulbs with the filiments touching eachother and that causes chaos,,,,check this if you replaced any bulbs

In my best Curly impression, "hmmm no wonder water ain't coming outta here, this pipe's full of wires."

Yo answer you question, no it didn't all work right before I replaced the switch.
Before when I hit the brakes the left front and rear signal light would come on. It would blink when the signal was selected without my foot on the brake pedal. That's why I figured it was the 45 year old ts switch.
I've replaced bulbs. I just need some time. I'll keep at it.

i am in the same boat.waiting for a new turn signal switch.funky stuff happening with brake lights.its always something.

Well, back at it. A while ago my alt fried. Actually it was my voltage reg, let the alt overcharge and melted some wires. Replaced the wires from the alt to the bulkhead. Them the wires from the bulkhead to the amp guage,( both pos and neg) and a wire to the instament panel connector and one to the headlight switch and one to the high beam switch
Put it in without it all wrapped up and everything worked. Cool right?
So I thought too. Well pull it back out and wrap up the wiring, put it all back in. Everything hooked up, cluster in. Column back up. Getting excited thinking I'm gonna go for a little ride before the weather goes to ****.
Tried it out and the f*****g the signals both flash when I try either right or left.
Arrrrggghhh!!!
Bonus though, my gas guage works and so does a clock I bought along time go.
Going to get back at it tommorow and just start disconnecting things one at a time.

check the grounds at the lamps themselves.those can get corroded pretty easy and that will send electricity in all kinds of weird directions.

Check the steering column ground. Should be a jumper across the mounting bolts where it mounts to the bottom of the dash.

Went back at today and started by disconnecting the high beam switch, nope. Then the break light switch, nope. 4 way flasher switch, BINGO! Found a bad front signal bulb too. It was new.
I was thinking that the front running lights should be on but they only flash with the t/s on.

Ground, grounds grounds. The brake lights are looking for a ground and they found it through the turn signal

DF

this right here.....all of you with this problem have a grounding issue...check/clean the bulb sockets first, then work your way back to the switch...

I had a spare flasher switch, put it in and it's all good. All the light and signals work like they should except the front running lights.

Did you try grounding the running light housings?

congrats....its usually something very simple that will drive ya MADD keep in mind also that....NEW DOES NOT MEAN ITS GOOD !

when i first got the 66 Belvy...i checked all the lights and electrical . a few replaced bulbs and all the external lights worked....UNTIL......i noticed that when the head lights are on....the parking lights ( the amber ones)...would go out when the head lights were on....this puzzled me for a while until i decided to get on this forum and ask about it.

Cranky proceeds to tell me that the amber parking lights go out ( in the front) when the headlights are turned on....and this is how its supposed to work. i never seen this before and im glad i asked first or i would have had wires everywhere trying to fix something that wasnt broke.

im not sure about the 67's , but maybe thats how its supposed to be with your front parking lights too ?:headbang:

Well, I work afternoon/midnights, 7 days on 7 off 12 hrs starting at 6:30 pm. I started my week yesterday so it'll be a few days before I get back to it.
I am excited about what does work even though the seasons pretty much over here.
I did " fix" a defroster duct in the process 
