Was cruising around and out of the blue the pump shut off, pulled over and to my surprise the pump just quit turn he key no pump. let it sit for a couple of minutes and ban it works again?

This pump has maybe 12 hours of run time on it and maybe 1 full tank of gas...wtf? wondering if the ground came loose, it looked and felt tight no blown fuses it is cold out here so it didn't overheat. Wondering if it just cut off internally?

Very strange anyone have this problem?

Yes a small filter before the pump, brand new filter on the pick up tube. another filter after the regulator.

You need to make sure the pre "filter" is not tighter than 80 micron. You don't want a true tight filter in this position - more of a strainer. Holley recommends 80-100 micron.
Make sure you are using a good heavy gage wire feeding it power. I think 12 gage or smaller is recommended. This is a common area that gets overlooked with these electric pumps.

Going back to mech pump. The electric set up was suggested but I never really wanted to do that but I had to get rid of the stock pump(whole other story). Just picked up a edddy rpm mech pump. So I will have the Holley blue and reg for sale soon if anyone is interested willing to trade too :)

this is why i like the mechanicals....they let you know when they are ready to die!

Yeah, I have never had any issues with mech pumps, the stock airtex pump made a knocking noise with the brass tipped pump rod and was annoying when we first did the swap - hyd roller cam, but I think the eddy pumps are a bit stiffer and made better we shall see :)

Just run a quality oil like Brad Penn, or that pushrod will get short in a hurry.
I sold the one out of my engine to someone here a while back....

Been thinking about that there is a place about 20 miles from me in concord that is supposed to sell that brad penn oil have to check it out and call them. I have a brass tipped rod from comp cams Looked at it today and not a scratch on it. ready for the new eddy pump. Thanks

Speaking of Brad Penn oil you guys use that with a hydraulic roller motor? I can see needing z-alt or something with a old or rebuilt stock. Roller s don't need that extra zinc do they? running plain old 30 now not synthetic just regular.

Wow I have had good luck with Holley pumps. Had the red pump on my boys Dart since 1997 and the one on my 63 since 2006. I prefer electric pumps myself as they are better for racing and have less chance of vapor lock in real hot weather. But it is funny as my 63 cut out on me Friday night and it did act like a fuel pump dying. I planned to upgrade the red pump on my 63 anyway as it really is not enough for my 63 now with the 493 eng as it uses alot of fuel. And if I try a Dominator it will use even more fuel. I was thinking of going to at the least the blue pump but may go to the black pump. Sorry to hear of your problems and I hope all works out good for you. Ron

Off the shelf oil would have been fine for the roller setup, but now you add the mechanical component to your engine with the fuel pump pushrod.

So what makes Brad Penn oil better than generic oil? what weight should it be?

Having the mech pump before didn't seem to hurt anything during break in. What is in the BP oil that would make it better for my set up?

The Holley blue pump cannot handle street use. The Holley red pump is for the street. I had 2 Holley blue pumps fail, and I contacted Holley and that is what they told me. The blue pump will run hot and fail with constant use.

if you cant find the brad penn oil check out joe gibbs racing oil, they have a great selection of different types for all applications.

I was able to get some 10-40 from a Napa in Pleasanton,Ca. I talked to the guys at Brad Penn to get recommendations on the grade. they said 10-40 would be the best choice for the motor and climate. Hoping it works. My roller motor needs extra protection for those 5000 rpm roll on jumps ;)

Got the Brad Penn oil and Well first thing I noticed was oil pressure went up! yeah. Was around 60 psi at start up now shoots up to 70-75 that's a good sign. This stuff is definitively green oil like it says very strange to look at lol Think it will do well. will take her out after the weather clears up.
