You might first ask why is that really important?
Well , when you register your vehicle with the DMV, that is the info they request that a LEO sees when a license Plate reader is gathering info live as cars pass by.
A mismatch can precipitate a traffic stop, among other issues.
So, what color is it?

I have tried several times to get FL DMV to change the color of register for my Dakota to "bronze" but they keep reissuing the registration with "UNK".
So far (2002), I have never been stopped because of that.

I think we can agree "unknown" regarding car color is less suspicious that a distinct color mismatch.
Your situation is a conundrum, because of our registrations we sign at the bottom certifying all info included is correct to the best of the applicant's knowledge, making signing a clear technical violation.
