Pondering buying a hemi dart clone. Looks like a fun car, but am a bit worried that once you have the car you are pretty much limited in resale. And as you know everything eventually gets sold... So I guess i am wondering what the general board thinks of these cars? I tell you for a clone, they are NOT cheap if you get a decent example. Thanks in advance for you input. Spook.

I think a clone of a 68 Hemi Dart is a car that totally makes sense. I would think a real one would spend more time on a trailer or in a garage. A clone would be a blast to drive to a local show or just take out for the day. As far as resale, I've always looked at cars as a hobby not an investment.

Very true. I have been looking for an A12 car but frankly am rather bored with making sure the car has the correct dated wheels, ect. So been thinking about going the opposite direction getting a car you can drive without worrying about a matching drive train ect. Thanks for the reply. Spook.

I think hemi dart clones are great. I have a 69 dart that I have been thinking about cloning it into a 68 dart hemi clone. I wouldn't worry about the clone value. If you watch BJ you will see clones and modified cars sometimes selling for more than the real thing. It really depends on how nice the car is. Any a,b,e body mopar will increase in value with a hemi.

I guess that is my thought. Besides it would be a hoot to drive with a 700HP hemi under the hood! Thanks for the repy. Spook

If you are looking at one of the Hemi Dart clones that are being built by order and sell for around 100K, they appear to be well built tribute cars. I doubt you will get your money back on resale. If you get one, lets see some burnout pics!

I freaking love hemi dart clones. I want to build one possibly as my next project. I personally wouldn't go nuts trying to make it 100% correct, but good enough to look original and period correct. It would be a blast to own and I'd do the sealed grey paint with the black front end as delivered from the factory.

Just my take on the subject,, I've owned high end and low buck .
The cars that you aren't afraid to drive or take anywhere will give you the most satisfaction.(Sorry for the bad photo) Big block stick, good paint and interior, drove that thing everywhere.Put 30,000 miles on in 2 years. Did nut and bolt A-990 clone job and all it has done in the last 6 years is sit. Why ? I haven't a clue other than the cost factor digs into your brain. The next thing(for me) you find yourself doing is buying another car to have fun with.
Something that my wife said that sticks with me is"We used to have fun in that car,why did you F*^K with it?" Just my rant...

I am afraid that would be a bit rich for my toy budget! I have located a completed car (if there is such a thing...)that I will be going to get next weekend. Yes, it is grey primer with fiberglass front end. I agree, a fellow can go nuts trying to recreate the perfect clone. Not my intention. As I am doing with my 64 Savoy it will be period correct for back in the day but not nut and bolt perfect as Graveyard Cars seems to strive in their restorations. Thanks for the replies. Spook

I would love to own a nice Hemi Dart clone. The only thing stopping me is lack of money and shop space.

I have no problem with a clone as long as it's priced as one. A good way to gauge value is itemize the parts and add them up.

Makes no difference at all to me if its a clone. It still looks like the Dart that you want and you can have fun with it. I think clones are fine and good for the hobby. Ron

Well, as you know hemi anything is not cheap! It is actually quite incredible the money it takes to build a clone car. But hey, it is only money! Thanks for the replies.

The way I look at it is there werent enough made.So a clone is cool.

Exactly the way I feel about the low-production '72 Road Runner, too. 'Course, I may be biased.... But Darts have always been a fave of mine, too, and a '68 Hemi clone would be freakin' awesome. :headbang:
