I wish I could find the F-15 video I took. We were flying alongside a Soviet Bear F ASW aircraft and two F-15s out of Andrews AFB were flying with us. I was taping out of the port-aft observer window when one of the F-15s broke off and flew under the Bear with his nose up so his idiot buddy could take pictures of him looking like he was boresighting the Bear.
I say idiot because they apparently didn't realize a Bear F is a sub hunter and drops sonobuoys that are about six-feet long and weigh a couple of hundred pounds out of their aft bomb bay doors, and the didn't know that the guy was about to drop. Our pilots were yelling over Guard to the F-15s to get clear, but they didn't acknowledge and the Soviets didn't know he was back there when they dropped their next buoy.
The bomb bay doors flash open, and the F-15 pilot yanked back on his throttles, pulled up the nose, and deployed the speed brakes and the buoy just missed the nose by inches. The guy yanked his plane around and moved to about 2k yards from us and never got close to us again. I'll bet he had to change his panties when he got back to Andrews.
That was cool RC/DH, "I feel The Need, The Need For Speed", Top gun movie, Maverick/Goose Navy F-14 guys quote, I know, USAF but appropriate here too... the launch & vertical with afterburners must be a total rush/E-ticket ride or the banking or rolls at speed, very cool....
