Seems like I fill up only takes 3-5 gals and then run out after a few miles maybe 20, go to fill up again and only takes 3-5 again?? is it possible someone put some crap in my tank and it hardened or something?

Freaky....I know these new gas pumps top off and the angle of the filler is odd but I have tried to over fill and it splashes out wtf?

Besides my gauge acting weird for the most part it moves when you add gas so today i was trying to test this ditrb curve change and i was out of gas! put in 2-3 gals from the gas can got her running went to the station and it filled at 3.5 gals? gauge went from e to 3/4 after that?? I am way confused now.

Wondering if someone before I bought the car has put something in the tank like form or something or sand? thinking of just getting a new tank and being done with it, the guy I bought the car from said the tank was replaced about 10 years ago.

Possibly your sending unit pickup got bent when the tank was replaced!Maybe put it in upside down! Not much else that it would be.

that would make the gas pump cut off like the tank is full after 3-5 gals? seems like every time I run out in my drive way then go to the station it tops off at 3-5 gals instead of 15? I can see the sending unit being bad and giving me false readings but physically running out and only being able to put 3-5 gals in at the pump seems so strange like there is some thing in the tank.

Sounds like the sender/ pickup tube. I have seen the sender tube rust through. Especially if the previous owner didn't like to fill the tank all the way or let it sit for a long time. I had the same problem in a boat I worked on, talk about a bad place to run out of gas. I agree pull the sender. Now all you have to do is figure out how to get the gas out to do so.

What year car? My '65 fills up behind the license plate. The filler tube is at a very shallow angle and sometimes the gas can back up the tube while filling, causing the pump to shut off. This is especially true with todays gas pumps, they're pretty sensitive to this. Try filling slowly by throttling the nozzle. The nozzles with the spring loaded vapor recovery device are a particular pain in the ***.

Yeah same with mine rear behind plate, will try that also going to replace the sending unit for good measure. Really want a new tank sending unit and straps.
