I believe they're still the loudest planes ever built. Certainly piss the neighbors off in the mornings!

Ha Ha....
That IS a neat plane too.
It's a "Turbo prop with counter roataing prop engines.

Unlike the B-52 with its 8 jet engines....

Why am I saying this ?
Because if WE did purchase the airplane, maintenance would be easier than a J-57 Jet engine.

selling old USSR Soviet Bombers on E-Scam now too... hell it's only $3,000,400.oo so far, with payload ??...LOL...

I'd like to buy it but we have covenants in our neighborhood against parking Russian bombers in your driveway.

We flew against a couple of BEAR Fs (the ASW variant) when they operated out of Cuba in the 1980s. When they were operating, the BEAR Fs would drop to a loiter speed for several hours then go back to Cuba. We asked the intel guys when we would know when they were headed off-station, and they said "your P-3C has a max of 4,600 SHP from each engine. The BEAR F has over 16,000 SHP from each engine. Trust us... you'll know when they're leaving." She wasn't kidding! We had the engines almost firewalled just to keep up with those guys at their loiter speed, and when they dipped out of there they left us in the dust.

We had four F-15s out there with us most of the day, but as the BEARs were leaving two F-4s were coming to escort them out of US airspace, and you could see those Phantoms for miles due to all the smoke they were belching running on the afterburners to get out there and catch up. Those BEARs were frigging fast!

The link for eBay seems to have been pulled. At least, it won't work for me.

They may be an old design (1952) but just like the B-52, they're still viable for certain operations. And unlike the B-52, the current fleet has a much fresher airframe, mostly built in the 80's and 90's, and projected to be used until 2040.

Although I'm rather surprised that with todays computer modeling, they haven't come up with a new prop design - maybe fatter blades and slower turning, something to get the noise levels down to make it stealthier. Maybe even improve on the 575 mph top speed. :)

Quite the bit of history...an advanced stealth fighter with radar absorbing properties. Good thing they didn't get it into production a couple years sooner. I saw a good NASA report on that craft.

In honour of MoparSmitty, I'm going to mow my lawns at 6:30am tomorrow (Sunday) just 'cause I hate the 'A' Hole next door. :headbang:
