How do I get to the cable on the back of the speedometer to replace it on a 1967 GTX?

The cable should go into the back of the speedometer and be held in place with a plastic clip. The ones I've seen use a lever design clip that you push on one end and the other end disengages and allows the cable to be removed. If you can reach it, you might be able to reach up from underneath the dash and disengage it, or you might need to pull the cluster and reach it that way.

The new cable has a threaded round nut on it, but the old one is so far up in the dash where it connects to the back of the speedometer that I can barely touch it with the tip of a finger. I will feel around for the clip you described. I appreciate your help.

Also, make sure you get the right cable when you go to replace it. That round nut has a different size between the various transmissions. That's a nugget of info I learned the hard way. :)

The cable is attached by screwing it on,not a push on with a retainer clip....IF...you have some flexability it can be screwed on with patience and a bit of pain,as I found out, being 63 years old.

This is a good question and I'm glad you asked. Mine's broke also.

I was changing the clutch in my '69 roadrunner and somehow yanked on the speedo cable and pulled it out of the back of the dash and it's too tight for me to fit under there and see what's up. Does a '69 hook up the same as a '67?

You are absolutely right-it does screw on, and is not held by a retainer clip. After enough contortionist maneuvers, I finally found a way to reach it. Thanks!
