how do i get the speedo cable on the back of the gauge on a 73 roadruuner rally dash. I broke the white plastic end on a brand new cable trying to press it on. is there a secret to it. are there different cables

It should have a lever with a hook on one end that you hold down when inserting over the speedometer, make sure the inside cable is lined up with the square hole on the speedometer and it should slide on with out much force.

I like to hang the Speedo and e-brake cables up and spray cable/ chain lube in the top and work the cable till it comes out the other end.... if you're breaking off the end something isn't lined up it should just clip on and done.

I agree, I hooked up mine by lining up the cable tip with the hole while pressing the lever and sliding on. There isn't much room though so if possible you may want to remove the cluster.

I have the same problem as fastphil,

My white plastic tab was broken off on the dash end of the cable when I first got my car; I'm trying to find a way to keep the cable clipped into the back of the cluster without slipping out. any ideas?
