Looking for advice on removing the cluster on my 73 Road Runner. I think I have a problem with the headlight switch & maybe the wires/printed circuit board in the lighting circuit.
Thx, Luther

Hi...I removed my dash/cluster on my '73 RR about a month ago...it was pretty easy once you drop the steering column...I'll let some of the guys walk you thru it like they did me...Marla

Thanks Marla:
Mine doesn't have a tach like yours does, so it's a little different set-up. But the key must be dropping the steering column. It looks like I might have to remove the radio also. What did you have to repair behind the cluster?
I'll see if others say any more re. getting the cluster out.

I wanted to replace all my dash lights with red led lights...plus I changed the looks of the cluster by applying mint green overlays...the steering drop is easy as there were only 4 bolts I had to loosen...plus my radio was easy to remove as it was a non factory radio/CD player that I actually hooked up myself so I just had to unplug the wire harness from the back...the light and wiper switch just pulls off...if I can do it...anyone can...Marla

The haedlight switch has a small button located oppisite (sp) of where the plug goes. You have to push it while moving the knob around to remove it. Sometimes it takes a little messing around to get it out but it should come out. Good Luck!

Thanks fourforty6pac! Sounds like a quick machine you have there. I'll tackle the headlight switch job in the next day or so.

Marla, don't sell yourself short--sounds like you did a good job on your dash! BTW, I checked out the pic's of your "Desert Bird" (i.e., Road Runner)--great looking ride!

Below is from a placard the previous owner put in my 73's glove box:
ROADRUNNER: Geococcyx californianuss Crested bird of the highway. Wings short and rounded. Runs rapidly, trailing its long tail. Eats lizards, snakes, fords, chevys, and dodges!

Pretty cool description, huh?

LOL Thanks Luther

Marlabuck. Great job. I like the look of your gauges. At first I thought those were glow gauges. It makes me wonder if anyone makes glow gauges for our cars. I have a set of the glow gauges for my jeep cherokee. They are white but when you turn the lights on they can be adjusted from green to blue. Did you make the overlays?
