I installed 3:55 gears up from 3:23 and 15" wheels (previous 14") due to disk brake conversion on my '63 Fury. The speedo is now 20MPH off. Does anyone have any experience or instructions for the gearing replacement? I understand the trans tail-shaft is to come out to remove/replace a gear inside as well as the exterior gear. Want to make sure I do the job right. Thanks Ron h.

If you have a service manual...there are speedo gear charts in the trans section.
15" wheels no dif, tire size yeah. Look online for conversion charts for tire sizes, to use the gear charts.

if it has the '63 trans it will need the small 62-65 speedo pinion, 21 tooth; very rare.

FYI, The last one I bought came from Passion Performance. That was about 5 years ago. They are a bit hard to find.

You don't remove anything inside the transmission, you only need to change the speedometer pinion.Also,66 and later use a different style pinion than 62/65 and are not interchangeable.

Thanks all for your feedback. I may have miss-understood the removal or replacement of interior gear; but an outfit I had called a while back on ordering a gear wanted to know the gearing detail in the tail shaft for proper mating I guess. So reckon this requires removing the shaft to make this identification unless someone knows the drill?

Aloha , Brewers has a 21 tooth gear for $99. They called me a few days ago but I had already bought 1 from a fellow Mopar buff on this site. Give them a call, C

Ron,
You have to start with knowing the diameter ( to the 1/2" ) of your rear tires. Then cross to your rear gear ratio, and a chart will tell the ideal speedo gear.

Your answer as stated above, you don't need to do disassemble anything, just get the correct gear and install it.There is no interior gear, the output shaft is cut to mate with the speedometer pinion.

I know a guy that has a 21 tooth speedo gear for a 62 to 65 , But he's asking $150 for it. He says, "its like finding hens teeth" I don't know all that but LMK if anyone wants it. Mahalo C , SOLD 6.3.16

Only other thing is to note that a smaller speedo pinion will probably require a 1/4 turn of the pinion gear housing to mesh with the output shaft.
It should be marked on the housing for what position you'll need.

the early pre-66 trans missions don't have the indexing for the speedo gear. i went to a ratio reducer in my 65 coronet.

When I bought mine it cost me $120
