Can anyone tell me what kind of lube is used on a speedometer, and where on the gauge it goes?

Most people lubricate the speedometer cable. I like to use graphite. For the mechanism of the gage itself, maybe just 1-2 drops of motor oil or 3-in-1 oil???

While I'm at it, anyone on the right paint color, on the gauge needles?

I used Testors model paint and found it to be better than most. Orange or red your choice on how you want them to look.

Thanks, bee71! Sounds like a good idea. Just not sure if the color is the kind that glows when lights are on...

On a 64 Dodge. Where the speedo cable connects to the speedometer There are two screws that hold the speedo into the cluster. One just above the connection, and one just below the connection. Below the head of the top screw there is a tiny orfice that is drilled down to the speedo input shaft. Now, if you can tell me how to get oil into that tiny hole with the dash still installed, I would like to know about it.......................................MO

That's a good one, Cornpatch MO, to know. Didn't notice it, but I'll look again. Kinda force-fed 3-in-1 around the shaft. Might be looking at one of those 'needle-type' oilers.

Thanks!

I use a syringe for stuff like that in the shop, you can get one from most pharmacies.
