The speedometer in my 67 R/T starting acting wonky while I was driving the other day (I have linked a video below). While maintaining a speed, the needle bounces back and forth a few mph above and below the actual speed, while there is a ticking noise coming from the speedometer itself (you can hear the ticking in the video as well). The ticking gets slower as I drive slower, and the odometer will not advance anymore.

Has anyone ever had this happen? Is there a gear/fitting I may need to replace, or do I need to purchase a new speedometer assembly? I only ask so I can have everything I may need before removing the cluster.

If it were me, I'd check your speedo cable 1st. I know there use to be a heavy grease that was put on the cables to keep things like this in check. If left to my own devices, I'd pull the cable from the speedo head, check it and grease it as I put it back. Some people use graphite, others use white lithium. Regardless of what you use you don't want grease near the speedo head! So don't put any on the cable for about the last...oh..I'd say 4-5 inches or so. If it still bounces after that you may need to pull the speedometer assy and send if off for fixing. Or replace with another unit if that is an option.
