SpongeBob Square Pants won't be down for breakfast

Sad to hear of his passing. Unfortunately, I'm not much for Spongebob. Rocko was a more relateable character

That is sad that he went so young. I remember watching SpongeBob as a young kid, that wasn't too long ago either. It was a strange show...

btw, they recently named a new species after his character: Spongiforma squarepantsii

When I first saw the show I immediately thought it was too weird. But with a young (at the time) daughter at home I watched it a little closer and became a fan.
In a world where every freakin’ show has to have at least one transgender and colored and oriental and everyone else inclusive, Sponge Bob just was, well, more normal. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not against any of these things, but in so many shows it’s just too forced and uncomfortable. This was more like Bugs and The Flintstones of my childhood.
A subtle but cool scene involved Spongebob and his buddy wondering what gender Sandy Cheeks is. Sandy removes scuba suit to reveal ample breasts.

I like this show, not just for the mindless humor. Some of you old timers like me might recognize these characters on show and some of where they are from.

Bill Fagerbakke - Patrick Star (Dauber on Coach)
Mary Jo Catlett - Mrs. Puff (Housekeeper on Different Strokes)
Marion Ross - Grandma SquarePants (Happy Days)
Ernest Borgnine - Mermaid Man (McHale's Navy, Airwolf)
Tim Conway - Barnacle Boy (Carol Burnette)
John O'Hurley - King Neptune (J Peterman on Seinfeld)
Brian Doyle-Murray - The Flying Dutchman (Bill Murray's brother)
Thomas F. Wilson - Various (Biff in Back to the Future)
Clancy Brown - Mr. Krabs (Captain Byron Hadley in The Shawshank Redemption and Charles Zim in Starship Troopers)

IIRC John O'Hurly also does Plankton.

I loved Rocko's Modern life as well.

But why was Heiffer a guy? Clearly a cow (as opposed to a bull).

My daughter and I watch it together when we can. It’s one of those that you’ve got to pay attention to!

Sad day! 57 too young!

RIP Stephen
57 y/o is way too young to die

my youngest loved that show

Totally love the show...Mr Krabs is me to a T, Spongebob is clearly semi-bi-sexual and Squidward is a typical disappointed-with-life-liberal. Patrick...IDK. Sorry to hear about the passing of the creator..seen the name a million times, just never looked him up..

I love SpongeBob Squarepants....a sad day indeed...RIP Mr Hillenburg. :(

How could you not appreciate this type of humour....

Very sad. Passed from ALS - a vicious disease. My wife's father died from it - took him in 6 months of diagnosis. But they have no reliable healthcare in Vietnam so he went especially hard.

Rip

I loved the show. Lots of adult humor.

IIRC this guy also created Ren & Stimpy.

Someone gave me a Spongebob CD as a joke.

It has a Pantera track on it!

Seriously. How can you not appreciate that?

Jellyfishin', jellyfishin', jellyfishin', jellyfishin'...

The F.U.N song is pretty good too.

Plankton's verse-

"F" is for fire that burns down the city
"U" for uranium bomb
"N" is for no survivors...

...and I love the boats they drive...that have wheels and tires.

He was (and several of the voice actors) involved with Rocko's Modern Life, another great classic toon!
Wasn't Rockos Modern Life about a Wallybe? I'll drink a Fosters to that.
