Hello all. I was hoping for some insight from the Mopar Gurus here on a problem I'm encountering. I'm replacing the last 20 inches or so of both rear frame rails in my 1969 Road Runner. I recently purchased donor rear frame rails for a 68-70 B body. Everything matches accept the hole for the Shackle on the Spring perches. The ones on the new donor frame rails are about a 1/2 an inch to an inch towards the rear of the car from where the originals were. Hence if I welded in my frame rails precisley where I cut out the old ones. The bottom of the shackle would swing in towards the center of the car which I know from reading some books is not an acceptable position. I waited over a year to find these frame rails so I didn't have to weld in the spring perches separately. So my questions are regarding some possible solutions. Please forgive any ignorance I may have on the matter as I've never done this before.
1.) Has anyone ever encountered this? I thought if it's a 68-70 B body frame rail everything should have matched up fine.
2.) Should I weld in the frame rails the way they should be (meaning regardless of the spring perch location) and if so, can I make some kind of shackle that would compensate my issue?
3.) Should I weld in the frame rails dependant on where the Spring perch location would be (Hence cut the donor frame rails a little shorter to move the spring perch towards the center of the car more) and if so deal with the fact that the rear of the frame rails might not reach the rear of the car's tail panel and bumper mounting (maybe a filler panel of some sort)
4.) Should I just separate the spring perches from the donor rails and weld both the donor rails and spring perches in the proper location? But then my issue would be if the floor pan would follow the contour of the relocated spring perch (because it would be located a little farther up)? And the whole reason I didn't buy new frame rails was to avoid having to weld in the spring perches separately?
Please, any advice would be greatly appreciated!
Thank you.
