maybe someone has had this happen? started up after winter been just a few months of sitting in freezing cold garage and as engine warmed up suddenly temp gauge spiked higher than usual about 220 plus ... coolant in radiator was not even warm but under a fair amount of pressure and gushed out ... but still cool Is it possible there is a blockage... ice somewhere but its been warm for a week or so... thinking thermostat or... radiator ? any tips?

bet its the thermostat, if it's blocked you will have high pressure in the upper radiator hose when trying to squeeze it. It also won't be hot to the touch

Agreed. 180 Napa Superstat worthwhile even if that is not the problem. Be careful with the housing re-seal if you go there. Keep us posted.

wow really fast info... thanks a bunch

also looking for some parts: hood lip molding, bucket seats maybe racing seats, bought car last summer and sorting it out ... windshield wiper motor isn't working.... have removed it and tried direct 12v power in all combinations ... can these be rebuilt? seem hard to find

ive only seen that happen when burping a freshly filled cooling system and it had a large air pocket.sticking stat could cause,as others have said.hope you are running a good anti mix if you are worried about icing up the block.if your "coolant" froze it could have damaged the stat, creating your problem.

tested coolant last year seemed good then, highly doubt iced up but sitting could have made the t-stat sticky need to give it a try again in a bit thanks again everybody ... i should have joined this forum earlier... thanks thanks....

Awesome car! There used to be a few options on getting the wiper motor rebuilt, unfortunately one of the greats passed away last year. However, there is another guy I think out of California if I remember correctly that also does them. He did mine and did great work, I just can't remember his name. I'll try to see if I kept the receipt with his contact info.

Oh great, another grammar problem child! Dude, where were you in English class?

sweet lookin car! i can see where you got your username.
might want to post in the "wanted" section of the forums for your parts

I probably was in Joes Garage! Didn't have no dope or LSD, but a couple of courts of beer. I didn't realize grammar was so important to get my points across. Thanks to everyone who legitimately had something useful to impart.

Just did a quick Google and found two different wiper rebuild/restoration shops. Passion4Mopars and Mopar Teds Wiper Motor Restoration shop. I haven't used these guys but there is a thread with discussing Ted's work with pics and looks very good.

Welcome aboard. Very nice Coronet. Don't let the English teacher discourage you. Some people are just too ****.

I am going to pick up a Napa superstat as suggested. My only issue is my coolant is ORANGE. I don't know what brand or type. I am not sure how to identify what it is exactly to avoid mixing it with something different. Is that a big deal? Heating system has been deleted so there are no heater core lines to use for flushing it out of the block with a garden hose , so that's a pia. Any suggestions?

Nothing but green traditional coolant for me. Dexcool has bad rep. Sometimesidontdotoogoodingrammmmmerclass

Grammar is very important to Frank Zappa fans. I will try harder. I read his posts, those in glass houses shouldn't through stones man! It has been a running Joke that I need better friends, I feel like I have found some. Since I have gotten my car there has always been something cropping up to change the priority of my to do list. (Grrrrr....)Long list. "If it has tits or tires it will give you problems". I believe the right thing to do is to flush the orange out. In this case going green isn't really going "green" just more $green going. Going green, got it!

yes,do not mix green and dexcool.causes bad clumping reaction inside the cooling system.flush it all out and fill with good mix of reg green anti.

Before you put a new thermostat test it in a pan on the stove with a thermometer prepare to go through a few to get a 180 that opens at 180 and drill a 1/16" hole in it to help get the air out of the system. Don't assume there all good because of ???? reason....
Sterling clasic auto has the wiper motors. Remanufactured for 1/2 the money passions for mopar charges to rebuild your unit... save money keep you're core ... I've been too busily working on projects the last 30 years to be an ASE certified on line mechanic...
