Saturday R/T's starter took a ****. Great cold, but intermittently cranking, slowing, then stopping when hot. A 750 CCA group 27 battery won't do that, nor will a hot motor in my experience. Reading through some threads here in the past, I recalled someone saying a 93 Dakota 5.2L (318 for you anglophiles) would fit, so I put one in. It fits-with a caveat-
you must remove the electrical connector extension provided on the starter for clearance to block-very, very close even with it off-but it does clear. The starter is a mini-high torque, very light, and goes in much easier than the anvil that it replaces comes out. Easy access to both top and bottom bolts from the front of the starter with a 12" extension. Cranks the 440 nicely, at least with no power to coil-just finished putting it in, and am recovering from laying on my back in close quarters with my arms twisted like some Cirque du Soleil performer. Gettin' too old for this crap methinks.
