got a 70 f 440 motor with an 8 bolt hemi crank with an aluminum bell housing and the starter will not fit, it is too big of a flywheel that interferes with the starter. Any help on a starter that will work or do I have the wrong combo?

I'm no expert 11" flywheel with a bell housing for a 10.5 flywheel? I'm sure you'll get a positive answer .

Aluminum bells used the 130 tooth flywheel I believe. What's yours, 143 tooth-11"?

Wow, I thought they were all the same; learn something everyday. Thanks,Fran.

I don't know much about wedge stuff or manual shift stuff. I've been learning with my 65 Dodge. I bought a Lakewood blow shield and it two positions for the starter. Won't say more it will show my ignorance.

You may need a hemi starter. Not the same is other Chryler starters. Direct drive - no gear reduction. Totally different starter drive.

The direct drive starter and bell housing $$$$$$$$!
Better to buy a new flywheel that works with the bell housing and starter. Moepar you should post the part number of bell housing and picture wouldn't hurt. Do you have a trans that fits the hole for bearing retainer.

Is this an auto or manual?? I have an 8 bolt crank with a TF.One time at the track my starter crapped out.Went to the MOPAR vender for a mini starter and it did not fit.I had to clearance the block or the starter,so I ground on the starter till it fit.I then found out there were 2 part numbers for the mini starter...........

Went to Brewer Performance website they list 172 and 130 tooth 8 bolt flywheels. The 143 tooth is 6 bolt to the best of MY limited knowledge.
IMO you have a 172 tooth wheel if that's what you have it's worth some good money in good condition.
The 130 tooth is a 10.5 inch. Easier to find parts for IMO.
Hemi-itis bought up a good point, are you using a standard Chrysler gear reduction starter?
