So I swapped the American Torque Thrust wheels out for Steelies and dog dishes. The paint is a bit different than the body color. Think the contrast looks ok ? How about you thoughts on the Steelies over the Americans ?

I like it. Even the little different color tone looks good. I wish there was a way to use the original '65 Belvedere dog dish caps without changing/modifying wheels.

are those 14 or 15 inch rims? I have the same set-up on my 64 belvedere. had mine custom made. where did you get them?

15's. Yeah, it has 4 wheel discs. Thought about getting the adapter rings or the guy that makes the centers to have 15'' wheels made but they don't fit disc brakes that I know of. The wheels are factory units.Repop caps, 71 Chrysler 15x6 on front and 80's 15x7 rear from a Dodge Diplomat. Junk yard finds.
I do have the original caps from 65.

Well, I have run the steelies on various cars, including my 65 Belvedere. They look good, but after a while I would grow tired of the look and switch (back) to mags of some sort (Torque Thrust would be my vote here but I switched to slots on my 65 Fury). Your car looks great either way.

I too get bored after awhile and swap wheels and tires around often.I had a nice set of aluminum slots that went with the last car I sold. What am I doin' now ? thinking about slots again.:screwy:

Same here ! I just Luv my Torque Thrusts , but Mags are also very kool. As you see I run both ! I need to find a good set of Steelies . If any one has a set of 15x10 & 15x7 for sale?

I'd really like to use the original '65 dog dish but the Vintique's require the 9" caps. I've heard there is a spacer that can be used on the 10" caps so you can install them on the smaller (9") wheel. Never seen one and a little skeptical they actually work.
I'm old school and like the nostalgia sleeper look.

Torque thrust grey five spokes are the best custom wheel ever, they look great on everything, but i love the steelie/doggie dishes just as well on mopars. Darter6, the slight color diference is no problem at all, some like body color, some like black.
I too have several sets of wheels and tire combos for my 62, i use centerline autodrags, torque thrusts, ( polished, even though i prefer gray, found only polished to fit some 28x10/16 slicks i got dirt cheap) and steelies, with either 67 barracuda caps or dodge red stripes.
Anything you put on that gorgeous 65 would look great.

I love the steelies but I'd try to find a way to use the year correct dog dishes. I had a set made for the rear steelies on mine using the center section out of another rim for the large ring in a 8" wide hoop.

I believe it was on FBBO a guy was selling the correct wheel centers. Don't remember his name or cost. By the time you buy the centers and then have them welded to the rims, might be outta my price range.

I'd love to use the correct dog dishes, but i have the barracuda caps and the dodge caps and the wheels they fit. I dont have the 62 caps or the big centers.
I know where there is a set of 62 caps, but they're stuck on a savoy wagon. Might have to buy the wagon to get the caps!

OSDart, I'll have to find out if those wheel centers(for 10''caps) will work for disc brakes. My guess is about $200 a wheel to have them made.

Thanks. Have you heard or aware of an adapter ring to mount the 10" cap to the smaller(later style) wheel?

I certainly don't see anything wrong with the caps on your car. Looks pretty darn good to me.
I may look into a set of police/highway patrol dog dish. Similar to the ones on my Dart but have holes around the lip.

I like the idea of switching it up once and a while. I might go with chrome steelies out back

Has anyone heard of an adapter ring made by Larry Yarbrough? He has a You Tube video describing the installation. But no contact information.

you can use your current Dog Dish Hub Caps as a base for the correct 65 Dog Dish Hub Caps.
All you have to do is to get some Double Sided, Waterproof Mounting Tape.
Put four Stripes of the Mounting Tape on each of your current Caps, and press the 65 Caps on them, with your Hands.
I`ve done it that way. You cant tell that there are hub Caps under the 65 Caps.

It's all a matter of personal choice. I think the steelies look good on your car.
I had steelies and dog dishes on my '65 when I got it. Had some old Mickey Thompson E-street radials on the back ones.
I sold them and replaced them with Cragars and Cooper Cobras - I kind of wish I would have kept them, but really don't have the room to store them in my 1 car garage.
Personally, I like the look of the Cragars on my car instead of the steelies. Either way, they look better than some of these over size (for the car) wheels that are used today.

Both sets are 15" wheels - the front end is lower on the new wheels as the front end was aligned and the ride height adjusted.
