Hi all,
I've got a couple quick questions.
My current steering column is a column shift auto, and I've got the three steering column collars necessary to convert it to a floor shift. I'm running into problems with the snap ring behind the turn signal switch... I've tried snap ring pliers, but the ends are too big for the holes... is this a Chrysler-only tool, to pull that out, or should I just find a smaller set of snap ring pliers?
Also, once I get the collars off, what do I need to pull out of the column that goes down to the base to change gears?
Thanks for any help.

I used small screw driver or knife to remove both snap rings. Steering shaft and shift tube unload out the bottom of exterior housing. I recently converted My X from "Grandma`s column shift" to floor shift. I hope this helps.

It is advisable to use a smaller correct snap ring pliers so you don't bend or damage the snap rings so they stay in place when reassembling as you don't want things coming apart when you are driving and jamming up. If you are working on 70 and you purchased correct 70 collars you don't need to and should not remove the inner tube that changes the gears in a column shift automatic. That inner tube is the same tube that console automatics and 4-speeds used in 70 to operate the key release lock-out system that all 70 models had from the factory so the column could turn when you put the car in reverse to align your ign key to remove it. Also if you remove those pieces including the lower seal it will allow excessive heat to come up through the column jacket and depending on what kind of exhaust temps your are running could damage the wiring in your upper column.
