Steering column paint question

I am rebuilding my steering column on my 69 Charger. My question is does on an interior colored column, does the color extend beyond the firewall? For example if the interior color is green and the column is green do you actually see green on the column when opening the hood?

So my Coronet was black so not really a valid comparison but the Duster my daughter and I are restoring the B5 Blue goes all the way down the column into the engine compartment. It is faded but clearly blue.

same color all the way down.usually the paints wore off or dirty,that's why you never notice it.just my opinion
