Surfed web for about three hours, couldn't find a good answer.
I have a 72 SSP with a slapstick. Straight steering column, no shifter, tilt or tilt-a-scope on the shaft. I noticed the shaft as it protrudes out of the tube to the steering box is just flopping
around in the tube. It seemed to me there should be a bearing or bushing to support the shaft in the lower end of the tube.
Like i said no shift levers or anything else because it is a slapstick.
Just the shaft sticking out of the tube but nothing supporting the shaft within the tube. Anything that was there must have just completely fallen apart because the steering box adapter is in place on the end of the shaft. That would need to be removed in order to slide any bushing/bearing off the end.
Even the 72 manual didn't list any illustration or service for a straight non-column shift slapstick steering column. Only had
tilt, tilt-a-scope and column shift with the levers sticking out of the lower end of the column. I started checking with some of the suppliers but they weren't really clear on the application. Soooo... does anyone know what I need at the bottom of the steering shaft tube to support the shaft inside the tube just above the steering box adapter on a simple shaft/tube slapstick car? And/or where to get one?
I can post a picture of the invisible part that I'm sure is supposed to be there tomorrow.
Thanks.
