Swapping out my column shift shroud for a new floor shift type.

Having some fitment issues and wonder if i need to remove more of the "column shift" bits.

There is the outer tube that works the shifter, should i be removing that ? Rather not if i don't have to of course.

And then inside the new shroud, there is this piece that fouls on the above tube. What is that for ? Can i remove it ? The column shift shroud does not have that.

Didn't get any answers so dove in head first during my lunch break. Decided to remove the shifter tube inside the column. Doesn't serve a purpose now, so can't see a reason to keep it. Plus, now my car is 1/2 lb. lighter. ;)

Is there supposed to be some sort of seal, or dust boot at the end of the column tube ?

not sure about a 71 but there should be bushings on top and bottom.bottom should work like a dust seal.

There was a bushing around the outside of the shifter tube that i removed, you can see it in that photo near the top. But there was nothing inside that would have gone around the steering shaft.

I called Tony's Parts and they say there was no seal/boot at the base of the tube. I'll probably keep my eye open for something i can make work.

It was going back together nicely last night until i got to the point where all the holes in the new shroud use different size/thread screws. Don't understand why this would be made with different threads,... Mega Parts will be getting a phone call when they open.
