Steering coupler ?

Getting rid of the factory steering coupler . Has anyone used this one in pic. Looks like a decent piece.

Why? The factory piece also absorbs flexing this does not.

The factory coupler allows some sliding motion to absorb body/subframe flexing. Does this U-Joint type do that?? Just asking, why change what has worked for 50+ years?

I used one made by Flaming River many years ago to correct a problem I couldn't figure out at the time. Mine used a roll pin to secure but the one you posted says weld on. Either way you have to cut the steering shaft. It worked fine, but I wouldn't do it again. My problem turned out to be the drivers side frame rail was crushed in 1/4" and caused the steering box to be angled wrong.

I have the pin one on my car because I put a new PS box on my Bee. The Bee had manual steering.

All steering systems in production cars have some system of movement for flex.
To remove it would be very short sighted.

I used one on my old cuda. I drilled it and used a factory style roll pin, and I never had an issue. The factory shear pins in the column had slipped anyway, so the column could move

a bit.

Rebuild or replace with the same coupler save yourself a headache.

While I agree with Mr. Mike, what you plan
to use will work. Be prepared for more road
feel and vibrations being transmitted to
your steering wheel. Also for faster "kick back"
should you hit a pot hole or speed bump.
The steering system on the build I'm
working on has no rubber/fiber coupler, but
instead, makes a 90 deg turn thru a mitre
box. Usually with a solid coupler, on long
highway trips, steering wheel vibrations
can actually make your hands numb, or a
"fall asleep" feeling as there's no 'give' to
the system, and the steering picks up
all road vibrations.
Note the miter box and steering coupler
in the pics. This build will not be driven on
long hauls where the sleepy hands affect
occurs. The rubber/fiber couplers reduce
the frequency of road feel.
