I have a 69 RR 4 speed just came to the conclusion that the steering gearbox
needs to be replaced; I’m not interested in rebuilding. Are there any tricks,
unforeseen issues that one may have experienced?

Thanks

I just recently replaced the unit in my 71 RR Clone. It was easy enough. There was a bit of confusion in the beginning because the first box I got, my pitman arm would not fit. It was too big. Ordered another box. Same thing. We determined that my box might have been newer so we looked at the pitman arm. One thing I did learn is that the pitman arm for 72 and older is damned expensive. Tried a 73 box. Bingo! My old pitman arm fit and the 73 pitman arm was a third the price of the 65-72. My RR now has a 73 steering box. And by the time I put the box in for the third time, it took about 30 minutes for the swap. Take the drivers side motor mount loose and jack the motor. Box comes right out. And yes, the boxes were the same except for the sector shaft (output/pitman shaft) diameters.

I added some photos

As you can see just in fromt of the steering gearbox has fluid on it.
