Hi, taking my steering shaft out of my colum tube on a 65 Satellite, there's a bearing at the top on the shaft. Can and how does it come off? Or do you have to take off the lower coupling and pull shaft out from the top. Thanks

On the late 60's stuff you can remove the upper sleeve part and remove the bearing but I am not sure on the 65 model. If you have two 1/4-28 nuts visible under the turn signal switch then you can loosen those and pull it apart from the top without taking the column out of the car. For the late 60's stuff that bearing seems pretty universal and I'm sure the columns were supplied to various car makers from one source. For example I took that upper bearing out of a 68 Ford and put it in my 69 Plymouth. All the hardware and assembly method is identical between Ford and MoPar. GM I'm not sure of.

Thanks for your reply, Meep Meep, I will see if I can that bearing off. The lower coupling is in great shape no cracks in rubber boot etc. Colum is out of car
