stereo for 70 super bee

i am building a 1970 Dodge Super Bee, i want to have a decent stereo that can do ipod, sattelite radio and cd...

anyone have any suggestions for stereo components and placement...

there are 2 6x9 spots on the rear tray, but where do i put front speakers?

does anyone know of a drop in replacement for the dahs stereo?

Is it a 2 X 4 square opening?

IF so, then most any aftermarket stero on the shelf will fit in. With that said, I would look into a name brad myself. I like Pioneer. There fine units to use and are inexpensive to purchase even with your requested needs.

Look for one (Most all ready are) powerful with 50 watts of power.

Alot of guys cut the door panels or kick plates for speaker placement. Theres normaly a decent amount of room on the doors lower corner up front. They can handle 5-1/4 easy, check speaker specs for a 6-1/2 round. If you can fit a 6-1/2, go for it!

My 70 Road Runner has a dual shaft old school Alpine cassette deck in the factory slot using a factory bezel I got at a swap meet that had already been cut. If you put something in the dash, I suggest doing the same - getting a factory radio bezel that has already been cut at a swap meet for cheap and using it. Mounting the head unit in the glove box or under the dash are also options. There are "stealth" units you can mount anwhere, like under a seat, and use a remote. www.custom-autosound.com is one website.

I fit two Infinity 3 1/2" speakers under the grill in the dash. I couldn't find 5 1/4 or 6 1/2 speakers thin enough to fit the kick panel on the driver side and not hit the emergency brake pedal. Some guys get small box speakers and mount them under the dash. I've seen people make custom center consoles with room for the head unit and two speakers, one on each side. If you pop off your door panels you can probably find a place to mount speakers if you don't mind cutting up your interior. It all depends if you want to keep your interior looking stock or if you don't mind letting your equipment show. Good luck!

I mounted a Dual-50W x 4 In-Dash CD Deck XDM6350 in the glove box, leaving the original radio in the dash for the stock look. I mounted Pyle-Pro PDMR9 - 5'' Dome Type Midrange Speakers in the kick panels(less than 2 inches thick) and clears the E brake pedal and Kenwood KFC-6982IE 6-Inch x 9-Inch 500-Watt Max Power 5-Way Speaker System in the rear deck from the trunk side so the package tray cardboard would lay flat. This also eliminated using the ugly plastic speaker covers that came with it.

Im in a similar conundrum with my 70 Charger, if I can't find a bezel that's already been cut what's the best way to cut mine?

Year One has an aftermarket bezel with a hole for a CD deck for 68-69 Roadrunner would that not work for a 70 Dodge? I could'nt link the specific part for some reason it's near the bottom of page 1.

I actually used a 3/16 wood panel in my 70 Bee. I fould one that had a very similar grain to the one on the factory dash and was the same color. You hsd to look REALLY close to tell it was different.

As a bonus, I didn't drill holes to screw the plate on, and my stereo had DIN (I think)connectors, so I effectively created a pull out unit, by simply lifting and pulling forward, then unplugging two connetors and the antenna lead.

I guess I'm assuming the OP has a woodgrain dash...that's probably not a safe assumption.

Thanks for finding that i tried cutting one out of thin wood but it looks like crap. I need to get one.

That all-vinyl pair is for sale for $150 with tracks plus the ride. The logo looks like 3APC Racing or 3R Racing. Really comfortable and they hold you in on the curves. They don't have a flip forward lever so getting in the back seat means cranking the recline knob. Summit Racing sells similar seats WITH a flip forward lever (which I am putting in the car now) and tracks - SUM-G1159-2. They also have them in beige and grey.

Did you use a template...awfully straight lines of holes.

What holds the speaker in?

My template was a drain grate...lol

Thanks, I spent an hour or so walking around menards to come up with that one. Speakers are attached to the car body with metal strapping by the way, nothing fancy
