Whats the dark sticky bees wax kind of sealant on the backs of the speed nuts like these for the hood scoops?

Waiting also! Some kind of asphalt based sealant? Thinking of a dab of silicone gasket to replace it.After 49 yrs mine is still gummy, has to be bad for ur health!

Well not an answer, but IT HAS to be a carcinogen in Calif. Everything made has that label!

I'm not sure if that sealer material is the same stuff as original but if it is it will stay gummy forever. It reminds me of bedding compound for glass sealing.
Same kind of stuff I found on the speed nuts used on the tail light mounting hardware and a few other places.

I always use 3m strip caulk on any holes through the body that don't have gaskets.

It's like the wax seal for the toilet base to floor seal.

The pic is from RT Specialties. I called today and they don't know what it is. It is the same as on the trunk panel nuts.

I believe it was some variation of butyl, but as hunt2elk, you can use black 3m Strip caulk its about the same consistency and what I used on my hood scoop inserts when I put them back. Or if you have any butyl left over from doing your back glass or windshield you can use that also!

I will have to say....I was kinda scared to click on this thread...wasn't too sure what to expect when I did!!! The title is.....ummm.....disturbing! Just sayin'!!! ;)

I got everyone's attention with that title. Sometimes posts sit for days without anyone reading them because their title lacks a certain eye catching quality.

Aahhh what the 'oldsters' knew back then! I'm removing nuts&trim for paint job & that stuff is still ready to do its job.

Generally, they'll get sticky if they are not washed often enough.....or....I'm not going there :D
