iam looking for info, on how to replace my current stock tapered axle, with the setup that the backing plate will stay on the housing, so i can just pull the axles alittle to change the third member, the current stye you have to remove the brake line ,and the e brake to get the axle out, i know this swap has been done...dont care if i have to use the stock taper bearings, or goto the green type

Over on moparts there is a member named docdifferential that has the axle shafts and rear brake assembly to replace what your tapered shafts and brake assemblies. cost is not cheap though about six hundred for new axles and brake assemblies.

It's an easy swap to put in a '65-'70 B body rearend. You should be able to find a complete unit for a few hundred dollars. Your '63 third member could even be used in the "new" rear if you want.

Ya, I was going to say just find a 65-7 housing and axles. Will 1" wider then your 63. 68-70 will be 1-5/8" wider.
