Hi all. Thanks for the responses to my first topic. Now that I've decided what to do I was trying to see how I can easily correct the steam locomotive impression the car is doing. I was told the manifolds are cracked so I was looking at the part numbers and the driver side doesnt seem to match anything i can find on the net.

I don't have the room to install headers and the shop refused to do it after they saw the rotted out frame rail but its not really drive able. Additionally if its going to cost me 100 dollars a tow back and forth trying to find a place to do the work then not much is going to happen I'm afraid.

Any ideas? Passenger side makes sense.. I found others on ebay and around, but driver.. not sure about that number? Looks like 671595-2 to me and that lip on it doesn't match the pics I see of HP manifolds for sale.

The date on the driver side looks like 8 13 71. I think. its rusty.

The number is 3671595-2 which is 73-74 B Body.

Correction.. its supposed to fit 72 400 cu also.. i guess its just got a really bad crack somewhere.. I dunno though. I will have to pull them both then. Thanks.

A crack should be easy to find. Feeling around (with leather gloves) could locate the crack. If it's that loud at idle, pulling plug wires one at a time until it goes away will narrow its location down. Also, is it possible that someone put gaskets between the head and manifold and it has blown? It should seal fine without any gaskets.
 
I haven't had a chance to look at it yet, but trying to find replacements is looking very spendy.
 
I just finished brazing my 440 manifold that cracked. Get some torches and a few sticks of nickel brazing rod with flux and go nuts.
 
Not sure if this will help but I have 3751068 and 3751071 stock HP manifolds on my 74 Charger with the 400 in it. I believe the 74 version is the only one without the heat riser, but I could be wrong.

I was told these manifolds at times actually warped where they bolt to the heads, and have to be milled straight again. I know some guys use gaskets to take care of this, providing the manifold is not too bad. Any truth to that?
 
I've had more leaks using gaskets with iron manifolds than just bolting them to the head without.Makes no sense, but maybe it's just me...

Same for me, at least the metal/fiber kind I tried to use on the 383 about 1979.
Could NOT make them seal.
But no leaks without them.
The all-fiber kind worked well on the 340,
but when I was looking, that style was not available for big blocks.
