I hear ya! everyone likes the wet sanded polished mile deep clear coated paint, but the fact is-its wrong! A real restoration should be acrylic enamel single stage with no clear. Its a tough sell in todays world but it really does look right on a restored muscle car. Check out TPC Global. They are in California and sell several brands of paint. When I do correct restoration style paint, I use PPG Delstar. Lots of other brands that work well too

I agree with the old look of paint. I am working on a 64 Belvedere 2 dr HT and it will not be painted with a clear coat. A number of years ago I built a Red Express truck and the paint was Delstar paint that looked just right.

X2 on the PPG DCC, very good paint.

I like the single stage look too. That's what was used then.

Base coat clear coat is too shiny on most but I've seen a few cars that looked really good with the extra shine. I guess it depends on the car and the color.

Make sure you use hardner in your "straight enamel" / single stage or you won't be able to repaint over it if you need future repair work done!

Retractable helped me a lot with PM"s on installing my windlace. In looking at his other postings, I find that I had given him a "like " on this one. I don't care for base coat-clear coat either. I painted my 64 Dodge with Urathane solid color and really like it, but it is so hard that it's a chore to cut and buff. My next project (1968 Sport Sattelite ) will be enamel with hardener......................................MO
