First, I don't know what this piece of metal is called that the hood latch attaches to but mine looks like it is from another car and modified to fit. I have a 1968 GTX and looking at other car pictures mine looks wrong. The hole where the release handle goes through it looks very different than other cars I have seen. Also, you can see areas where material was removed I think to make the grill attach.
What is this piece called, and does anyone have any idea what is going on with mine?
Also, does anyone have the correct one to sell?
Thanks!

I have a 68 GTX but put an a12 hood on it long ago so the mechanics of the hood latch are also long gone. Just in case you didn't know the roadrunner and satellite are the same configuration so you can draw from those owners as well. Wish I could help you further. Someone will chime in with help soon. Good luck.

Looks like it might be called the upper grill tie bar # 2786232.
$350 and up on eBay.

Ouch - hang on a little bit I think there are members on here that may be able to help you out for a bit less. I thought I saw some recent comments about those pieces.

You can find a better price. Isn't that called a "hood latch support" or am I off in left field and it's called something different on a '68? Somebody did a heck of a job if the hood latches. Just run that one until you find a good deal.

In 1968, there was a slight change in the hood latch location mid year. Maybe yours has been modified to fit? Go to AMD sheet metals and look up their 68 hoods. They explain the difference.................MO

Thanks for the pics and explanation.
Attached is a full frontal of her.
Headed to AMD website now....
I think I have an early build. I have full speedo numbers. Tag # is 1146XX.

My research seems to point to the following:
All 1968 B-Body Plymouths use the cross bar with the triangle hole. Part #2786806
All 1969 B-Body Plymouths use the cross bar with the rectangular hole. Part #2949115
I have a 1969 cross bar on my 1968 car.
I will verify this at the Springer Flinger this weekend.
Is there any way to tell a 1968 hood from a 1969 hood or are they identical?
Thanks!

Looks like my hood is a 1969 as well. It has the support bracket on the passenger side used to support the air grabber unit.

Confirmed at the spring fling that I have a 69 on my 68. Another member here hooked me up with the correct one. It wasn't cheap but it was a fair price and is in beautiful condition.
Thanks everyone for your help!
