My '68 Coronet was painted back in the 70's with enamel I am sure. The shop opened the trunk and just sprayed everything in sight including the backs of the taillight housings. I have been pondering how to get these stripped without damaging housing so it still looks nice when it is bare (I am assuming that is the factory look, bare material). Anyone have thought of what I should use to try to strip this paint? I have used sandblasting and Aircraft Stripper up to now but I think that is too harsh for this job.

You may try boiling them in water for 10~15 min and then dipping them in cold water immediately after. I've never tried this with enamel paint, so if you try it and it works, let me know. Good luck!

You can use brake fluid. It won't hurt the plastic...but it will take EVERYTHING off. You may also try hand cleaner. Smear some on, let it sit for a while, then try working/ wiping it. It may take longer, but it's more 'controlable' than the brake fluid.. I have had great results cleaning various parts using hand cleaner.

Submerge it in Superclean degreaser for 24hrs

There's citrus based stripper they sell at lowes or homedepot that works great. I used it to strip the paint off my heater box in the bee it turned out great. I've since used on other stuff and I kicks butt
Just have to leave it on a bit longer. It's smells like oranges too! It's called citrustrip
