I'm done dealing with a local bozo whom I've sent a few jobs to, mainly b/c I don't have time to prime anymore, and, he's a very good painter! However, his work ethics and patterns need a LOT to be desired! I sent my buddy there for a repaint of the hood and quarter panel, and adjustments to the front fascia on his BMW 840i, he (the sub-contractor) never is there, works crazy hours, promises my buddy 3 days and it'll be done, and its now 2 weeks later! Another job I sent him, a hood for a kid's car his dad brought to me to blast, this was a replacement hood for hail damages, it came from a boneyard, wrong color. So, I blasted it, owner asks me about priming it, I send him to my sub contractor (he's Mexican BTW) and two weeks later the hood is barely in primer!
I'm looking at this like what are these customers saying about ME in referring them to this bozo? Asking myself this question, and going down this road with this bozo about 2 months ago (this is the same asshat that couldn't/didn't pay me for a Media Blasting job) I am now telling him (Told him today) that I can't and won't refer people to him anymore b/c of his business practices!
Another tid bit; the Cuda I blasted 6 weeks ago, bozo primed it for the customer, when customer came to pay, he (bozo) said "Nah, that's alright, I will need you to press bushings into the Barracuda upper control arms when I'm ready". My customer looked at him like ok, no problem! I looked at Bozo like WTF are you doing? Are you a business or are you a hobby shop looking to be 'the good guy'? I've been telling this asshat that Good Guys Finish LAST in this world! Charge what you need to charge, but ALWAYS do a good job, and charge accordingly is and remains my advise for this nitwit.
Well, all this added together, with my buddy asking me what's the deal on his BMW, I call him up and he says he had a bad week...I was beside myself! I am not going to try to change him one bit, but, here's my 'announcement' I made to my facebook business page, I think this hits the subject squarely where it need be.
"Just so you all know, if I'm going to recommend a sub-contractor for services after I finish my lane, they must meet the level of service, workmanship, value, etc., meaning would I send my own stuff there? All facets must be met, or I'll retain ownership of sub-contractor's work and I'll deal with the inept situation so you don't have to."
What this means is I am not sending a customer to this bozo ever again. I'll hire him to paint, pay him, then bill the customer. Taking this non-businessman out of the equation makes sense. He actually needs to close up his shop, and come work for me, I'll give him a time to be there, and time to leave and tasks to do, pay him a flat rate, keep him from Bull Shitting his way around -- did I mention he is full of Bull ****, talks a HUGE game, etc?
Do you all think my new process for dealing with Bozo is cogent? I do. And, I told him long ago, any media blasting jobs he sends me I get payed 100% cash in full up front before I do **** for him, he's burned me on that Barracuda with a rubber check, then on his 69 Chevy truck he payed me the deposit I requested, then, when it came time to pay in full the balance, he said "I don't have it". Trust me, I was more pissed at myself. He's now paying me back in body work on the Dodge truck I'm restoring, and he's also doing the paint on it.
Yeah, and he always comes over to borrow tools when he just pawned his big tool cabinet off, and his Avalanche he no longer drives, he says his wife has it...like BS, you need a truck, your wife can drive a car. Should I get a security system at my shop so this mexican POS don't steal me blind?
