Super stock or OE springs?

I'm buying new rear springs for my 67 GTX from Summit, and they have Mopar OE and Super Stock springs listed. Would the SS springs be too stiff for a street car?

some people think they cause a rough ride,but depends on the person.if you do the ss's,dont forget longer front hangers for the shorter springs.

Buy the OE style 440/hemi springs. They're a bolt in and don't give the redneck jacked up 70's look.

I've never been a fan of the SS springs. IF the springs I have are in good shape, I'll add a leaf or even more to get what I want. Yeah, it takes some time but I'm not spending a lot of money or time dealing with getting stuff that doesn't satisfy me.

I just checked the springs on my car, there's 5 leafs on the pass side and 6 on the driver's, so no wonder it rides and sits the way it does. I'm guessing the OEM Mopar that Summit sells will have 6 & 8 ? It looks like someone has shimmed the pass side with a couple of cut off spring pieces between the housing perch and spring plate? I may not even have the right spring bolts or brackets, but I'm headed out to work and will have to see what mess is under there tomorrow. Is there someone who sells spring brackets and u bolts, in case I have to replace those also?

Super Stock springs ain't the devil. They work great for what they're intended for. I kinda like um. If you choose wisely your car won't ride harsh either. Just like mentioned though, they do require longer front hangers because the front segment is shorter to also act as a traction bar. The Super Stock rear suspension is an ingenius and affordable design and will support tremendous amounts of horsepower. If you're going more for a street car, the XHD springs may be more for you though.

Those are probably stock 440/Hemi springs you are talking about. They had 2 half springs on the pass side like you are describing.

5 on the right and 6 on the left?? Are you sure? If so, that's wrong....

I have had the SS springs for at least 15 years....not a harsh ride at all...a little soft really...if Im not mistaken they are softer on the rear side of the axel for better weight transfer..I could be wrong...I was thinking of going to a stiffer spring or air shocks to firm it up a bit as long as it wont jack it up..

They may have been half springs at one time, but now they don't go past the bracket? I'll check tomorrow when I have more time and can get better lighting under there. I'm probably gonna go with the stock 440 springs from Summit, I just want to get the car streetable again. " It was a drag car at one time."

I double checked today and there are 6 leaves on drivers side and 5 on the pass side, with 2 more that have been cut off and used as spacers. I'll fix all of this soon. Thanks!

Ok, I'm a PONTIAC and FORD guy and I took this '67 GTX in on trade, so I know very little about MOPAR, but I'm trying to learn. My GTX is kinda rough, but I'm going to fix whatever and start driving it. I tried to sell the car, but prices on project cars have hit a new low and I'd rather fix it up some instead of giving it away.

No, I know you're trying to help and I appreciate that, been around cars my whole life, but it's tough to wrench on a brand I'm not familiar with. I remember back in high school my buddy had a 68 or 69 dart with LH threads, wasn't for sure if this GTX was like that or not.Anyways, this car was raced years ago and has longer studs with open lugnuts, something else I'll be replacing. I'm planning on going back to a 3:23 gear, the car is supposed to have a 3:91 posi. What is that worth? Thanks, Dave

Post some photos and the fender tag and I'm sure the folks here will be happy to weigh in with opinions and suggestions and answer questions/provide info.
