I have a 66 plymouth belvedere I will be putting a aluminium
Headed 383 in. Gutted with a 10pt cage. Springs relocated and mini rubbed.... I recently aquired a 83/4 for it out of the Same body style and they have fairly new s/s 3800# sprigs but the last 3# of the springs are 45x on both of them and they look identical. Was wondering if I can run the same springs on each side or what... Seen before in a book that you can run em like that but idk...

Sure you can run them that way but you just won't benefit the spring bias that having a stiffer right side spring offers (preloaded chassis) but you can add a leaf to the right or take one out of the left depending on how much torque your engine produces. Another thing you can to is to crank up the left side torsion bar a bit.

What's the last #? 456 & 457 are 3400# springs and 454 & 455 are 3800#. Rights & lefts are quite different, right is much stiffer in the front half, left more leafs toward back half. Like Cranky said if you don't have the stiffer right side it will make the car leave un-level. If you have lots of torque the problem gets worse. If you can get the correct leaf dimensions for whichever spring is not correct (left or right) you can use leafs from another spring to make your own "homemade" SS spring with the correct bias. It worked for me.

I googled the part numbers and I found a result where some part numbers end with an x they both have identical #s and markings etc. I'm not sure if they are both left or right I think they are the thicker ones I think I may just order new springs so I know what I have

Right side springs on Mom's high performance cars had more leafs on the right than the left but it's not hard to add a leaf or remove one from either side. Imo, the aftermarket SS springs were always a crap shoot. Some have good luck with them and many don't. I'm one that always stacked my own springs to get what I wanted and have had great results from it. Sure it's more work but.....it takes work to get the car to act like you want it to. 'Off the shelf' suspension parts never appealed to me....

If the springs are New and in good shape do what Cranky said and stack the right side with Half plys you only need two and you will get the traction benefit of the SS springs. Also SS springs have a small spacer ply in the right one for chassis preload.
